President-elect Barack Obama has selected Leon E. Panetta, the former congressman and White House chief of staff, to take over the Central Intelligence Agency, an organization that Mr. Obama criticized during the campaign for using interrogation methods he decried as torture, Democratic officials said Monday.
Mr. Panetta has a reputation in Washington as a competent manager with strong background in budget issues, but has little hands-on intelligence experience. If confirmed by the Senate, he will take control of the agency most directly responsible for hunting senior Al Qaeda leaders around the globe, but one that has been buffeted since the Sept. 11 attacks by leadership changes and morale problems.

DiFi is up in arms, issues unusual criticism of an appointment that she considers a bad one:
In an unusual rebuke to the president-elect, U.S. Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) , who will chair the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence in the 111th Congress, issued a scathing reaction.
I was not informed about the selection of Leon Panetta to be the CIA Director. I know nothing about this, other than what Ive read, Feinstein said. My position has consistently been that I believe the Agency is best-served by having an intelligence professional in charge at this time.

But this exposes the guy as a total fraud before he even takes office. Even most of the Democrats in Congress must be completely stunned right now.
It is truly stunning — in the midst of the WOT and so many intel problems, to put this ignorant hack liberal bureaucrat in that position...... it says that Obambi does not expect to be credible so why even try.
Please thank your source for his service to our country. What is happening now must give him pause.
How foolish. No intel background whatsoever. The fact that he was on the Iraq Commission should tell us about all we need to know about what to expect from him. UGH!
Yes, I/we thank him often for his service. He was violently nauseous throughout the Clinton years and hoped (like all of us here) that we wouldn’t have to see any of that crap again. Now we have Panetta as the incoming DCI??? Insanity.
Even Diane Feinstein, leading Democrat, has now ripped the Panetta nomination.
/mark for later
Please spare me the "rumor is" anything sort of post.
Care to explain? Or do generalized accusations of persecution suffice, for anyone who might object to whatever the heck it is you're referencing.
Why are we griping? This is a way better appointment than making Al Franken the Senator from Minnesota. Be happy!
Trying to recall asking your permission to post.............................................................................
Nope, Don’t recall asking your permission. Thanks anyway.
Well, there goes the Battle of New York City.
.
Another creepy crook!
My memory isn’t as good as yours on political facts. I was doing google searches to try to find material on him but didn’t find anything bad. No doubt he did coverups.
You are absolutely correct. I seriously misused the word buffoon. Thanks for calling me on it. I don’t do that very often, but when I do it’s a big one, and very embarrassing!
He is one of several people from the Clinton years that I had hoped I would never, ever have to listen to again, or even think of once in awhile. Wrong.
Not only are they back in the news, they’re ending up in positions where they can do lots of harm.
I have no doubt America can make it through this little era of really bad choices at the ballot box. We’re a much greater nation than that! Just gotta keep our heads down and do the hard work it takes to make it work again.
See tagline.
Maybe he can market the CIA. . . . like disclose some of the secrets, so people begin to understand how important the CIA is. Isn't this what the Clintonista's have done in the past? You know, give out a little information at a time, to distract us from the real issues. And, who better than the marketing man?
Mickey Mouse would have been a better choice! ;)
