Obama's silence on the Gaza crisis is undermining his reputation in the Middle East
Guardian ^ | Simon Tisdall

Barack Obama's chances of making a fresh start in US relations with the Muslim world, and the Middle East in particular, appear to diminish with each new wave of Israeli attacks on Palestinian targets in Gaza. That seems hardly fair, given the president-elect does not take office until January 20. But foreign wars don't wait for Washington inaugurations.

Obama has remained wholly silent during the Gaza crisis. His aides say he is following established protocol that the US has only one president at a time. Hillary Clinton, his designated secretary of state, and Joe Biden, the vice-president-elect and foreign policy expert, have also been uncharacteristically taciturn on the subject.

Obama made his reputation by voting Present, but now he’s voting Absent.

Out goofie President-elect is so far out of his league, that it will only take about three months before the news media will begin to tear into him.

Remember how Clinton began to get bad reviews already in May 1993? I predict the same for Obama. If the MSM were not so enamored of the Big Phonie BalOnie, they would have realized this a year ago.

Positively scary. And, I’m pert’near fearless.

Obama speaks out: “War... uh... what is it good for?”

Well thank you. I now have that song in my head.......

If the UK thinks that the Arabs are unhappy with him, they should check around the mainstream public of America not the media. They may be in for a shock.

He would know what to do if only he could find the tele-prompter.

I think he's being smart by laying low, myself.

Obama's silence on the Gaza crisis is undermining his reputation in the Middle East

I'm sure he's held in very high esteem by Israel's enemies.

I predicted (with a measure of jest) that 0bama's first crisis would leave him either declaring martial law or sucking his thumb in the fetal position under his desk. This silence is like a virtual thumb-sucking, but then again, at this moment he's a *President-Elect*, which is like a "virtual president."

I'd lean to "clever," in the darwinistic-rodent kind of way.

If Obama had any guts at all,

don't hold your breath, mama.

When Rahm tells him to "stand up for Israel," then he'll do it. Or something that looks like it.

Rahm Emanuel won’t tell him to stand up for Israel. Rahm Emanuel is going tell him to wait until the Israelis are finished with the tactical offensive and then recommend that we aid the Palestinians in anyway possible. The whole reason that Israel moved now, was because they know they can’t count on weak kneed Obama.

I predict that if Obambi had said anything about the current Middle East conflict, this forum would have been raging with statements that there is "established protocol that the US has only one president at a time."

But President-Elects do.

Obama, thought he could be all things to all people. I guess this is one lesson that he didn't learn from Lincoln.

You can fool all the people some of the time, and some of the people all the time, but you cannot fool all the people all the time. by Abraham Lincoln.

I love it that Code Pink is already protesting him. This is an issue that being the Magic Negro is not going help solve.
