The Danish support vessel Absalon, which currently heads Task Force 150 operations in the Gulf of Aden has detained five Somali pirates after sinking their vessel, according to Admiral Danish Fleet.

The Danish support vessel Absalon has detained five pirates in the Gulf of Aden after a dramatic incident
involving a Netherlands-flagged vessel

The Absalon detained the pirates after a dramatic incident in the Gulf of Aden, during which pirates attacked a Netherlands-flagged vessel. The crew were able to repulse the pirates, setting fire to their skiff with an emergency flare, after which the pirates abandoned ship and were picked up by the Absalon.

The burning skiff was then sunk by fire from the Absalon.

The last time that Absalon detained Somali pirates, it was forced to release them on the Somali coast as Denmark determined it had no jurisdiction to bring the pirates to trial. It is unclear what will happen to the pirates detained on Friday.

Make them walk the plank. Or they could be keel-hauled.

Not to put too fine a point on it.... but wouldn't it be better if the pirates.... um.... got lost in the transfer or something?

I thought taking prisoners was a "Law of Land Warfare" thing.

The title was misleading. It was the CIVILIAN crew that defeated the pirates and set fire to their boat. The Danish warship only picked up the swimming pirates.

That’s more of what I expect from the European military. I’m sure the miscreants will get a stern talking to and be released to France where they can set fire to people’s cars. .

Let’s see now? Pirates, burning useless skiff and no way home? I’d say send the other vessel on its way and then get underway myself. See ya, maties! The fish are hungry!

Capturing or “detaining” any pirate or terrorist is foolishness.

How can you hang a pirate from the yardarm when you don't even have yardarms anymore?

“How can you hang a pirate from the yardarm when you don’t even have yardarms anymore?”

I think this is where the Danes need to figure out what the phrase “like shooting fish in a barrel” means.

You can still keel haul them.

Yeah, but what else can you do with a French car except burn it? Besides, maybe those mulim “youts” are really working for GM to help “open a foreign market” for them.

A nice Renault Flambeau or Crepe Peugot - Is it red or white wine with those?

They can swim, can't they?

Oh. So sorry. Maybe next time.

Maybe.

Leave it to a Senior NCO and fatigue detail. It'll get done. Or close enough.

Of course the US military won’t even come near a pirate vessel. What’s the difference?

No, they are all being released back to Somalia. Talk about idiotic nonsense. Kind of like releasing the Arab terrorists back to Iran. If they really wanted to stop this nonsense, these navies would seek out and sink every one of these pirate vessels and not rescue anyone. After a while, when the Somalis see that their vessels and crew are no longer returning, they will stop. Until then, why would they stop?

“It is unclear what will happen to the pirates detained on Friday.”

Just let them swim back to shore.

From about 20 miles out with a sand bag tied to each leg.

An Admiralty Court Martial followed by hanging from a yardarm is the only effective solution to piracy.

"he Danish support vessel Absalon, which currently heads Task Force 150 operations in the Gulf of Aden has detained five Somali pirates after sinking their vessel, according to Admiral Danish Fleet."

Do you suppose there's something amiss in the translation?

Perhaps they wrote "detained" when the Danish word really meant "killed in the most horrifyingly painful way imaginable?"

Lets make it simple, chum the waters, wait for sharks to appear throw pirates into water and sail away.
