McCain Could Face 2010 Primary Challenge
AOL News - Political Machine ^ | 2009-01-03 | Matt Lewis

Though not widely reported, rumors slowly began circulating last month that former GOP presidential nominee John McCain may face a primary challenge in 2010 from former Congressman J.D. Hayworth.

(Rep. Jeff Flake and Rep. John Shadegg were both likely candidates for the open seat if McCain were to win the presidency, but it appears unlikely either would challenge McCain.)

McCain, of course, would be hard to beat. He garnered close to 54 percent of the vote in Arizona's general election. More importantly, he easily won the state's primary, garnering more than 47 percent of the vote (though exit polls show Romney won the conservative vote in Arizona.)

But McCain has long been disliked by many conservatives, and it is highly likely that an effort to un-seat him would be greeted by many conservatives across the nation. A credible anti-McCain conservative candidate -- such as Hayworth -- would most likely have no difficulty in raising substantial funds.

“Anyone would have lost.”

For sure. Reagan would have last against the anointed one (0).

Who would have been better?

Although I'm tired of arguing, Romney at least would have had the balls to run a conservative campaign and platform.

Consider: six million conservatives (Republicans) who voted for GWB in 2004 failed to vote in 2008.

McCain: supports global warming lunacy: supports Cap & Trade lunacy: supports Amnesty lunacy: supported Campaign Finance lunacy:

McCain: long-time antagonist toward faith-based Christians. (my funamentalist church was lukewarm at best for McCain)

McCain: opposed 2002, 2003 tax cuts (which left hollow 'promise' he would change).

I still contend that if the Hillary-bots could ultimately vote for Obama, then anti-Romneyites in the south could have bitten their lip and supported Romney, along with 90% of conservative pundits who also considered him the best chance for the GOP: such as Rick Santorum, Hannity, Coulter, Weyrich, Hewitt, Limbaugh (many comments),Lowrey, Beck, Jones, and thousands of others.

Lastly.... yes, Sarah Palin is fabulous, but it's hard to argue that she was a terrible fit with McCain, due to the axiom that two 'mavericks' never get along.

All McCain's team did was butt heads and undermine Palin, politically speaking, which did no one in the Republican Party any good.

Romney is not nearly as vindictive as McCain.

Juan must go!
I’ll donate to his opponent in the primary.
If he wins I’ll donate to the Dem in the general.
Screw McCain!

You know how I feel about this... I’m waiting on the candidate to surface then firing up the YouTubes, PR and fund raising machines.

McLame must retire.

Retire the RINO!

Works for me. I'd be willing to send JD some money, not a lot, mind you, and I don't even live in AZ.

Just what I know of you here at FR you’d have made a better senator and president that what we were handed. And I don’t mean that as an insult......:o)

We’re making every effort to flush congress in Texas. Change of guard needed, only real conservatives need apply. We vote on ones record. Not on their promises.

Stay safe !
