McCain Could Face 2010 Primary Challenge
AOL News - Political Machine ^ | 2009-01-03 | Matt Lewis

Though not widely reported, rumors slowly began circulating last month that former GOP presidential nominee John McCain may face a primary challenge in 2010 from former Congressman J.D. Hayworth.

(Rep. Jeff Flake and Rep. John Shadegg were both likely candidates for the open seat if McCain were to win the presidency, but it appears unlikely either would challenge McCain.)

McCain, of course, would be hard to beat. He garnered close to 54 percent of the vote in Arizona's general election. More importantly, he easily won the state's primary, garnering more than 47 percent of the vote (though exit polls show Romney won the conservative vote in Arizona.)

But McCain has long been disliked by many conservatives, and it is highly likely that an effort to un-seat him would be greeted by many conservatives across the nation. A credible anti-McCain conservative candidate -- such as Hayworth -- would most likely have no difficulty in raising substantial funds.

I pray McCain will be soundly defeated. Go Hayworth!

Wouldn’t it be justice if Sarah campaigned for J.D. and he won? :-)

If she did that and McCain was tossed out, I would strongly consider voting for her in 2012.

I will contribute to any conservative that will challenge McCain.

Time for him to go.

I still am angry at the republicans that forced this guy on the rest of us.

Don’t people know they are just supposed to hold their noses and vote for the established republicans? That’s the only way the republicans can win - vote for the republicans that the republicans tell us to vote for.

I just hope a SINGLE conservative candidate runs against him, and not a half dozen others. This is how most RINOs probably get back on the ballot election after election.

Oh, and CLOSE the primary to republicans ONLY, if it isn’t already.

I don’t care if a RAT wins. So long as McCain loses in the primary.

I had always figured that J.D. would eventually take McCain’s seat as a Senator. The time is now! J.D. is a great Arizonan and a great American. He’s also a rare, honest politician. If it hadn’t been for those Marxist idiots at ASU ACORNING him, he’d still be in the House of Reps.

“(though exit polls show Romney won the conservative vote in Arizona.) “

That tells you that their are no conservatives in AZ.

McCrazy’s seat is safe.

McCain, of course, would be hard to beat.

Democrats don't find it an issue to beat McCain as shown of late.

A true conservative in his state may have an issue beating him perhaps?

I think not.

If I am remembering the past. Wasn’t MCC the subject of a recall that ended following the attacks on 9/11.

If he wants any chance at all of winning he will have to run in the Democrat primary.

Considering the way he abandoned Sarah Palin to the vicious leftist media after the election he has even less credibility than when he started campaigning 2 years ago.

“If he loses then a Dem would pick up Arizona and that would help Obama.”

And if Sen. McCain wins, we wouldn’t be able to tell the difference.

I’d love the opportunity to send J. D. Hayworth some out-of-state contributions for a challenge to McCain.

The RNC will put in whatever resources it takes to defeat any Republican challenger to McCain.
