Israeli tanks expected in Gaza Strip as foreigners are allowed to flee
The Times (UK) ^ | January 3, 2009 | James Hider on the Gaza border

Israel was poised last night for a big ground offensive in the Gaza Strip after allowing hundreds of foreigners to leave the devastated territory.

The Times understands that by this morning Israeli troops and tanks could be operating inside the area as part of large-scale operation to prevent Hamas from firing rockets into southern Israel.

One of the main thrusts of the attack could be the so-called Philadelphi Road that runs along Gaza's border with Egypt, under which Hamas has smuggled arms, missiles and men through a network of tunnels. Israel controlled the border until its army withdrew from the Gaza Strip in 2005.

Why telegraph their plans to the enemy?

Unfortunately, Israel doesn’t have the guts to invade and retake Gaza. It’s a damn shame, but they have the same problem we have in the US. A government run by the left.

That may well change once Hamas hits Israel's nuclear plant with the latest long range rockets supplied by Iran via China, Russian, Syrian and North Korean expertise.

NYT: "The casualty figures (450) include many Hamas security personnel, but the United Nations has estimated that a quarter of those killed were civilians.

Three Israeli civilians and one soldier have been killed in rocket attacks in the past week

Well, one in for killed pallis is civilian.

Three in four killed Israelis are civilians.

Telling, no?

Probably because those tunnels are getting hard usage at this time.

Time for ground penetrating radar and bunker busters.

Occupying and administering Gaza is a thankless job. The only think that will work is population transfer, and that is politically untenable.

Hope there’s lot of disinformation going out, but Gaza’s a small place and there aren’t too many routes to follow.

Maybe the IDF should be allowed to spend days or weeks toying with Hamas with different light probes that don’t get into heavy fighting but just try to draw out fire and movement from Hamas, to confuse them and expose them to further air bombardments.
