As a social conservative, I would note that live birth and abortion were not Bristol Palin’s only options. There was also not getting pregnant in the first place and maybe even... keeping her legs together until she got married. If many on even the Right no longer consider out-of-wedlock pregnancy and birth shameful, then marriage is purely optional, and talking about respect for the institution becomes farcical.

So once the baby is conceived, by her choice or by an “accident” of the biology of teenage lust -

then what? Live in shame forever? In your small mind, I would suppose so.

People with attitudes like yours give “social conservative” a real bad taste in the mouth. People with attitudes like yours, with only a slighly different upbringing, see justice in stoning women and rape victims to death for adultery (”they should have kept their legs together....what will society become if we do not punish them?”)

People like you would have killed Mary the mother of Christ if Joseph had not protected her with his name and honor.

yeesh. You are no more a “social conservative” than Obama, who would see an unwanted conceived and even a live born child as a “punishment” and evidence of a shameful sin.... sex without marriage

“Out of wedlock pregnancy”- stupid and often in these times- very very VERY selfish. But not always. There are circumstances where coould have walked any one of us or someone we love.

“Out of wedlock birth”- welcome the child into the world? Not you. Brand it with a scarlet letter of “B” for bastard”

“Social conservatives” with YOUR attitude contribute to the growth of ABORTION as an alternative to a lifetime of “shame”. Yes, unmarried girls would not want you “social conservatives” to look at them and see their shame- so they abort.

Shame on you.

Exactly. Christian kids act like the world these days, at least a lot of them do. No matter how they are taught, they will do their own thing if it suits them. If only they realized the harm they do to their souls when they disobey God’s rules, especially regarding sex. The world says, if it feels good, do it. But God knows differently and He knows it harms us to do our own thing with no regard for His principles.

As a social conservative I would say that your opinion does not count unless and until the young couple decides to take the support of their child from your pocket.

It would be great if all would not have sex until marriage. It doesn’t happen that way for some. If I had to choose between how we accept out of wedlock pregnancy and birth today and 60 years ago, I’d choose today.

“Keeping her legs together” or even him keeping it in his pants are just nice cliches.

As a social conservative, I’m happy they had the baby and have family to help them.
