Actually . . . that’s not too far off. Before industrialization, the nitrates in gunpowder were obtained using the bodies and/or excrement of animals. In cities it was scraped from the deposits formed in peoples’ cellars due to the amount of horse pee in the streets, but in rural areas they had to create nitre fields, often using dead animals that were not appropriate for other purposes (usually because of disease or because it died due to accident and didn’t get used before it spoiled).
Just need to publicize the fact that nowadays gunpowder is primarily made from pig urine :p
