Sarah Palin Speaks Out on the Birth of Her Grandson Tripp, Teen Pregnancy

Former vice-presidential candidate and Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin is speaking out for the first time on the birth of her new grandson. Palin's daughter Bristol disclosed her pregnancy shortly after she was named as John McCain's running mate and it sparked a national debate on abortion and teen pregnancy.

Palin says she welcomes her first grandchild, Tripp Easton Mitchell Johnston, born to Bristol and her fiance' Levi Johnston on December 27.

“We are over the moon with the arrival of this healthy, beautiful baby,” Governor Palin said. “The road ahead for this young couple will not be easy, but nothing worthwhile is ever easy."

"Bristol and Levi are committed to accomplish what millions of other young parents have accomplished, to provide a loving and secure environment for their child. They are both hard workers, they're very strong, and have faith they've made the right decision in setting aside their own interests to make this child their highest priority," the governor said in a statement LifeNews.com obtained.

Palin also responded to criticism that somehow she or her daughter failed because of Bristol's teen pregnancy.

Instead of getting an abortion, Bristol and Levi decided to keep the baby and have been supported by Palin and her family.

“When Bristol and Levi first told us the shocking news that she was pregnant, to be honest, we all at first looked at the situation with some fear and a bit of despair. Isn't it just like God to turn those circumstances into such an amazing, joyful blessing when you ask Him to help you through?”

Bristol Palin also commented and said she “obviously discourages” teen pregnancy and knows that plans she previously made for herself will now forever be changed.

“Teenagers need to prevent pregnancy to begin with – this isn't ideal. But I'm fortunate to have a supportive family which is dealing with this together. Tripp is so perfectly precious; we love him with all our hearts. I can't imagine life without him now," the young Palin said.

Bristol begins her final semester of high school next week where she'll get her last credit needed to graduate. She looks forward to continuing her record of good grades and high achievement.

Levi is continuing his online high school work in addition to working as an electrical apprentice on the North Slope.

Bill McAllister, the governor’s office communications director, talked about why the Palins decided to release a statement after initially declining media requests for comment following Tripp's birth.

"The governor's office previously declined to comment to honor the family's wishes that the event remain as private as possible. However, the high volume of press inquiries, along with some erroneous information that was published, prompted the governor to make a statement," he said.

Palin faces re-election in 2010 and is considered a top Republican presidential prospect in 2012 against Barack Obama when the pro-abortion incoming president is expected to run for re-election.

Tell me again how it is even remotely possible to despise this woman.

There are alot of evil people in this world who can’t stand seeing a happily married woman who loves life and loves her country. Sarah is what is right about America, Obama is what is wrong with this country, him and the people who support him and continue to ridicule this remarkable woman for wanting to make life better for everyone

The Palin’s are unique American and refreshingly ordinary American at the same time.
They just do whats right regardless of who is watching.

Trig is a Norse name.
Tripp is a family name of Levi’s.

From the thread the other evening, FR is filled with a lot of hypocrites, also full of rumors.
They are pro life and dissed the dau. for having the child.

Those FReepers who trashed Gov. Palin the other evening, have no idea what their kids have done or will do.

I don’t think these kids owe anyone but their parents an explanation.

Great point. When I think of Sarah Palin, I do think of joy, hope, and love for our fellow man. When I think of Obama, I think of arrogance, egoism, and a shill for the Clinton corruption machine. And these thoughts are without any adversarial position towards either one.

What scares me is that those who have the latter traits frequently cause even more heinous attacks on individuals, institutions and mankind in general. I don’t know what the next 4 years has in store for us, but I fear we might be in the same stages the Soviet Union was in the late 70s, but our future might not be so peacefully altered, nor our adversaries as magnanimous as those of the former USSR.

I, too, am impressed that Sarah Palin’s daughter didn't have an abortion, but this couple should get married ASAP —and should have done so already. It is a very bad sign about where society is headed when two people obviously in love and having a baby feel no pressure to marry before the baby is born.

I agree with you 100%. While I'm glad that they didn't abort and that they at least intend to get married, I would be happier if they had "set aside their own interests to make this child their highest priority" by getting married as soon as possible once they found out she was pregnant.

I don’t get it...why is one set of weird names better than the other set of weird names?

I love Sarah so much, but people need to stop making it seem as if it “cute” and acceptable to be a teenage mom.

“Levi is continuing his ‘online’ high school work.”

Oh, sounds promising!

I saw it, too. There were FReepers on that thread who give Christians a bad name.

It’s a big reason why she’s hated -

choosing not to abort put a value judgement on abortion in the negative,

and women who have aborted and are attempting to justify it the rest of their lives cannot stand the reminder.

What’s weird to some may not be weird to others.

Simple names are best in my opinion. Shows restraint and non-arrogance.
They don’t present themselves as someone above others.

I other words, no....look at me, look at me, see how important I am.

I don't consider Trig, Track, etc weird. Different, like Skyler and Dylan.

The others I mentioned are simply "in your face" names. Those won't go over well in a lot of HR departments at hiring time.
