Nearly 400 earthquakes have rocked Yellowstone National Park since last Friday. The quakes are putting scientists on alert, but they say this type of activity isn't unusual. As long as the quakes continue, the park will keep a very close eye on the region.
Hank Heasler, the Park's Geologist, said "Back in 1985, up to 3 months of earthquakes (occured). (They were) up to magnitudes 4.7. So the past four days have been relatively energetic for the last few years."
Scientists say predicitng earthquakes is still in it's infancy and not reliable. Park officials are not worried that this swarm of quakes could lead to a catastrophic event. However with the lack of accurate forecasting it is possible that these small tremors could be a precursor to a much bigger quake or even a volcanic eruption.

Yes, I’m in southwest SoDak., just a few miles from Mt. Rushmore. Prevailing winds from Yellowstone will affect us. If the caldera blows, the whole nation (and world) will be affected. That said, I pray and hope that this is just nothing to be too concerned about.
No! If anything it’s OVERDUE.
Because harmonic tremors ARE an indication of moving magma. Moving magma, especially under pressure, is not a good thing. Is the magma moving and filling cracks and casuing more cracks in its upward movment toward the surface? Or, is something less ominous happening? That’s why I wanted to know about where the supposed information regarding harmonic tremors. came from... From blogs, posts or opinions, or from something more credible like USGS? Make a bit of difference.
I have a friend in your area. I’ll have to give him a call.
Noory is going to be disappointed tonight, his audience is all here.
I'm used to waiting for the San Andres "big one," but this one's taking me by surprise.
Today’s quakes:

Harmonic tremors ??? Hmmm, looks like it to me.

I don’t know, just speculating from reading and observing.
Not to worry, you can hide in uncle nully’s basement...
Thanks. Doesn’t sound good. I wonder what the odds are that this thing is getting itchy and might need to scratch pretty soon?
What is a BOB and BOV?
Arkansas? Why? It looks like Arkansas will be toast along with most of the US...
“Noory is going to be disappointed tonight, his audience is all here.”
LOL- You win a prize for that one.
LOL!!
Maybe the dam will break at the same time, and we’ll be able to build some new adobe homes.
I’ll stock up on chocolate...
Based on what? When you are dealing with hundreds of thousands of years the level of error in age dating is likely in the thousands of years. Yes it could blow tomorrow, or not for thousands of years.
Quite frankly, I hope no scratchin’ needs to be done...
What ever happened to all the stories about how the lake floor was rising making the water spill into new areas? was that ever proven, or still occuring?
It should be noted that all the earthquakes have been intense and concentrated in one area, which happens to be above the magna chamber. The scariest part of this story is the harmonic tremors that scientists have picked up. They are a low level constant rumbling, which usually indicates magna movement.
