“I’m just amazed that the police departments that are very cautious about confronting criminals when danger is known are so cavalier about charging into the unknown.”
Around here the SWAT team is made up of a bunch of military washouts with Rambo fantasies. Most appear to be pumped up on steroids.
They are probably too stupid to understand the inherent dangers.
“I hate teh problems of no-knocks, but I also hate the idea of asking decent men to give up an element of surprise and volunteer to be a target.”
As others have stated, there is just no need to do it this way. A couple of grams of cocaine, or a pound of pot is NOT a life and death emergency.
Much safer to arrest the suspect outside of the home and then search the home. If a few get away, too bad, there will be other chances to get them.
The no knock tactic gets people killed.
you’d be surprised :)
Funny thing that cops did precisely what I described for the entire history of our Republic up until the onset of the "War on Drugs". Are today's cops any less courageous??? Or were yesterday's cops just foolish.
“On Dec. 7, 9 and 21, detectives went to Dozier’s home, at 2972 Panorama Ridge Drive, and purchased cocaine from him, his arrest report says.”

For that matter, wouldn't the chance of violence have been reduced -- in a home where police should have known young children were present -- if someone had simply telephoned the home, explaining police were approaching the door with a warrant ... preferably during daylight hours?--- http://www.lvrj.com/opinion/37058594.htmlSome will say such a procedure would be naive -- drug dealers could use the time to flush their product down the toilet.
But no cocaine was found -- and a dealer who can eliminate all his product in one toilet flush isn't really very big-time, is he?
Not to mention, if they're all that worried about a "flush", shut off the water, to the whole street if necessary. Then make that phone call. Then call from the outside for the suspect to come out with his hands up.
I'd give up my water for a couple of hours to prevent a police home invasion of possibly the wrong house.
What decent men would that be? The ones who sought the job of kicking down doors in the middle of the night and shooting anyone or anything that gets in their way? Just the job that decent men everwhere aspire to. Much as you might hate the idea of citizens having rights, those rights exist, and all of the unconstitutional BS of the war on___ (fill in the blank) doesn't abgrogate those rights because as some dead white American said "rights come from God - not government."
of course police NEVER lie
But that way they do not get to use their tacticool stuff or training (which our taxes paid for).
I hope they fry the nit wit over bearing police that performed the raid. He was found guilty by association. I would love to see if all the evidence made it to the store room or was a line or two missing.
oh... it’s the cops fault. not the idiots that called for the raid.
Yep. The police "associated" the drug dealer with the cocaine he sold to an undercover officer on multiple occasions.
They should have arrested him when he sold them cocaine the first time.
But that makes too much sense.
That's why they charge in at O'dark thirty.
It's known that the occupants are sleeping, and a sleeping (or half-awake) person offers little to no resistance.
Given reported incidents of home invaders yelling "police!" to make defenders hesitate to resist, if any police want to discuss anything with me I would be more comfortable seeing a marked police car in my driveway and a uniformed cop outside my door handing me a warrant in a civilized way.
Right. Undercover officers should always reveal themselves.
In my case I would be likely up and getting ready to go to work at what other consider "O-dark-30".
LOL! I've seen jobs with 'those' kind of schedules. Thanks, but no thanks! :-)
Going in at O'dark thirty without proper declaration is a good way to get shot by your standard home owner. I live by a very good assumption that someone breaking in my front door at 3am is up to no good and intends me harm. Further, a person in that situation has only been provided seconds to make a life or death decision after being torn out of REM sleep. Making it doubtful that they cognitively understood the screaming that woke them up.
Kick in my front door and start screaming at 2am and my first reaction is to grab my gun. Three seconds later, I'm on my stair landing and I see two people in black running up my staircase towards my children's rooms. I now have 1 second or less to decide to shoot or put my family at their mercy.
Doesn't sound too safe to me.
