COVINA, Calif. (KABC) -- Police said Bruce Pardo planned to kill even more people than the nine he killed that night, including his own mother.
...Police said Bruce Jeffrey Pardo expected to see his mother at the party and had intended to kill her as well because she sided with his ex-wife's family, but she had the flu and did not attend the party. ...
Pardo, 45, allegedly dressed up as Santa Claus and arrived at the party on Wednesday night armed with four guns. He fatally shot his ex-wife Sylvia Pardo, her parents, two brothers and their wives, her sister and a nephew. He then set the house on fire and committed suicide hours later at his brother's house in Sylmar.
...Pardo's body was discovered by his brother around 3:30 a.m. Thursday at Pardo's brother's Sylmar home. Pardo had a single gunshot wound to his head. Authorities found $17,000 on Pardo's body, and a plane ticket for a flight from Los Angeles to Moline, Illinois. It was originally reported that the plane ticket was for a flight to Canada. ...
On Saturday, police located a second car that Pardo had rented. Fearing it may be booby-trapped like the first car, a bomb squad was called in to investigate. The vehicle was not booby-trapped, and inside, police found a map of Mexico, water bottles, a gas canister, two computers and some wrapped Christmas gifts, evidence that Pardo may have been headed to Mexico. ...

Oh believe me! That was not meant for you but for Pardo!
When, after months of planning, you put on the Santa suit, spark up the flamethrower and start shooting children in the face, setting in motion an event that culminates in a blood-soaked inferno, youre no longer allowed to use the sympathetic "evil bitch screwed me in the divorce." argument.
One gun could have saved a lot of lives that day.
If they had, they wouldn’t be living in Los Angeles.
NOTHING is worth giving up the right to self defense, and that’s what you have to do in CA.
No, it is his ex’s and mom’s fault!
First you say “There's no excuse for committing acts of violence against innocent people.”
The balance of your post excuses violence, because you can “understand” it, under certain circumstances, approved by yourself.
Care to make up your mind?
If you have a spouse, hopefully your spouse is paying attention to what you post online...
LOL!
I’m not excusing the acts. I’m just saying what contributes to those acts.
Peep closely into a mirror peeps36.
This particular mass murderer was not a “victim” of an imaginary, evil, anti-male divorce court. Nor can his ex-wife be blamed for his evil actions.
Obviously.
The list of innocent victims includes his former wife.
And also his abandoned brain damaged child, and the mother of that child.
May I suggest to you that whenever you feel the urge to type “I'm just saying”....that you instantly stop posting, put the keyboard down, and back slowly away from your computor.
Don’t compare your father’s case with Pardo’s. Pardo’s wife wasn’t cheating, and she didn’t ask for more than her due, in fact, she asked for far less.
FWIW, if you’ve been paying attention to updates, Pardo started planning his “Christmas party” in June. He wasn’t fired from his job ( for cause, for falsifying documents, an offense other employers also canned him for) until July.
In this case it wasn’t the wife’s fault; he’s the one who changed after marriage, and he’s the one who was the liar.
SarahW, thanks for filling us in on the timeline. I was wondering when these events happened in Pardo’s life vs. when he started the “planning.”
Also, was he ever married before, or just this one-year marriage at age 44? There has to be more background on this guy.
Sylvia was his first marriage partner.
He, according to some published reports and some comments from purported former co-workers and girlfriends tended to play the field with younger women.
But he did get near the altar a couple of times.
He told one girlfriend that he had left a girl at the altar, and broken off an engagement with another (and seemed to be pleased with himself for doing so).
A co-worker seems to have a similar story - and posted that Pardo left one woman standing at the altar, ( coworker was invited to the wedding) to her shock an humiliation, never having let on to anyone, including her, that he wasn’t in love and wanting to get married.
He cleaned out their joint account they had a blew town for a month, (leaving her with bills and all the wedding expenses.)
He returned a month later to his place of work (JPL) and acted like nothing strange had happened, and could not understand that he no longer had a job there.
Another girlfriend from his much earlier college days says that Bruce was a fun boyfriend at first, but handled resentment at her refusing to sleep with him with passive-aggressive payback...setting up or agreeing to dates cheerfully, and then failing to show up. Never said when he was upset or mad...he just exacted his revenge. So she found him too frustrating a partner and quit dating him.
Those women, the previous girlfriends and fiancees (and their families), are fortunate to have escaped the cold-blooded killer.
I wonder how he finally got to the altar. Beware of persons who easily become resentful or nurture vendettas. I had a neighbor like that a few years ago, very vindictive re the slightest thing. I thank God he didn’t act out worse than he did. These types are powder kegs waiting to blow.
The TV news has stopped mentioning him, so maybe you found this about his past online?
