When Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin confirmed that her teenage daughter, Bristol, and boyfriend Levi Johnston were expecting a baby, the celebrity weeklies knew that the first photos of the Palin-Johnston baby would incite a bidding war. Baby Tripp Easton Mitchell Johnston, born Dec. 28, proved those editors right.
According to one source, bidding for the baby photos began at $100,000. People won out in the end, but In Touch was the only other weekly to make serious bids, according to several sources involved in the process. The price didn't soar immediately, according to the sources, because Sarah Palin stories just didnt sell all that well for the weeklies on newsstands.
Sarah was on the cover of People, Us Weekly, and OK! the same week, and really only People saw a bump in sales," says a source.
The drug-related arrest of Johnston's mother, however, caused the price tag for the photos to go up.
The bidding started well before the baby was born, but once Levis mom was arrested well, then you had a story, says one editor.
As for how much teen parents Bristol and Levi made from the deal most estimates hover around the $300,000 range (none of the magazines would confirm the exact figure in the end, which is standard).
No word on whether the money will go to charity, as sometimes happens in a celeb baby deal.

Absolutely true.
It’s pretty much always been like this, just we didn’t have the internet when Reagan was governor and then president. I have often wondered if we had the internet back then if Reagan would have been elected. I think the internet is a real ying and yang influence on our society.
No parent should allow a minor son to marry until after the baby is born and DNA tests are completed. It's the old 'trust, but verify' thing.
In most states, a child born after the marriage is irrebuttably presumed to be the husband's - the guy has just volunteered for at least 18 years of child support. It's worth waiting a few weeks before making that kind of financial commitment.
Right on the food, wrong on the mortgage. Folks could pay off their mortgages with what will, in effect, be pocket change.
Folks with debt will be the big winners, folks with cash will get burned.
Your right, but I know that there were so many stories about Obama that I read on the Internet that was never reported in the press, well, nothing negative about Obama was reported in the press, that is why when they asked people about Ayers, Rezco, Wright, people who voted for him had no clue who he was, didn’t know who Saul Alinsky was either. The media protected this guy so much in ways I have never seen in my whole life, and the way they treated Sarah was worse then a murderer is treated. They have given more respect to Hamas, a terrorist group that has killed thousands, but bashed a woman who has done everything in her life to make life better for her state, for her community, and for her country, to make life better for her kids. I don’t know how she was able to stand the bombardment from the press, I know that I wouldn’t have been able to handle it like she has, she has the grace of Princess Diana, who was also hated by the press. I see a lot of similarities between the two, mainly the treatment by the media. I just don’t understand how come the media hates Sarah so much, they portray her as some kind of monster, and people who are already mentally challenged believe it
MSNBC = your reliable source for tabloid news.
They said the same about TV 50 years ago. But that was regulated to a great extent. The 'net is indeed a free for all.
The problem today is that we are producing very few young critical thinkers.
Watch Leno do his "Jaywalking" segments, and you will weep for America.
Watch Leno do his “Jaywalking” segments, and you will weep for America.
And that is why, Barack Obama was elected President. There are so many morons in this country, that listen to the press like sheep and do their bidding, it’s sad, and these people being interviewed on Jay Leno’s show actually go to college, or so they say, I’d like to know what college they go to, perhaps the same one that Caroline Kennedy went to you know LOL
So true.
The MSM treated Reagan very derisively. It was quite bad, the condescension. It was extremely palpable at the time. But, the way Sarah has been treated has been considerably worse in my estimation. The media has made an all-out effort to destroy her. I’ve never seen anything like it. It’s truly mind-boggling. They’ve spread false stories, they’ve blown up ridiculous minutea into scandals, they’ve attacked her family. There’s almost a visceral sense of violence in the attacks on her.
Again, I’ve just never seen anything quite like it.
IMHO, it's fear. Sarah has a broad appeal that frightens both 'Rats and RINOs.
I posted a theory on Team Sarah why I think the media hates Sarah, it was a long theory but I will just skim it down so that it will fit here. When Sarah was introduced in August, the media did not bash her, the whole “trig is not her son” BS was not by the press, some stupid radio personality said that, but when Sarah gave that speech at the RNC, calling out Obama about his “community organizing” she insulted Obama, and the media thinks that Obama is a God, they really do think he is the messiah, watch them fawn over him, the Obama coin commercials, Entertainment Tonight swooning over him, they really do think he is a God-like figure, or God himself. When Sarah basically insulted Obama in front of millions of people that is when the hate started, they could not believe that someone was bashing their Messiah, and that is when they decided to bring her down, and also remember what she said about the press in that speech, she wasn’t gonna kiss their behinds, they were stunned, shocked that someone wouldn’t bend down and kiss their rings. That is when I believe the destroy Sarah Palin mission began, plus they see her as a HUGE threat because of her popularity, look how many people watched the debate, how many people came to her rallies, 80,000, 60,000, she got more people to rallies for Saxby Chambliss then John McCain and he has been around for a very long time. Sarah is an average American woman, working hard to make life better for her kids, the media hates that, they would rather she be corrupt, since she is not, they can’t stand her
Oh, and I should also add that there is something deeply discordant about all these intense MSM attacks on Palin. What’s so disquieting about it all is how massively unwarranted it is. Governor Palin exemplifies that Jeffersonian ideal of politicians arising from the heartland, and offering their services to the country. She’s someone who has made it entirely on her own. Unlike most other politicians, she’s never been beholden to party machines, unions, corporate interests, and such. She’s a shining star who tackled corruption in her OWN party, and has governed with great discipline, and has fully devoted her policies to the taxpayers of her state. And, she’s a GOOD, morally grounded woman.
In a landscape of slimey politicians (just look at Washington), this gal is a bloomin’ hero. Yet, as you’ve stated, the MSM have gone all-out to characterize her as some kind of loathesome monster, who should be belittled/destroyed/stomped at every opportunity. It’s both mind-boggling and rather sickening.
Yep, I think you nailed it.
I agree with you. Palin chose to accept McCain’s offer and step into the spotlight at the wrong moment. She should have waited a few years before stepping onto the national stage. She and McCain knew her daughter was pregnant and unwed, so this type of publicity should’ve been expected.
It was meant as sarcasm...I dont follow the Palins like I monitor the amount of clean underwear I have before I need to do laundry.
Oh, I have watched the Leno walkabouts, and listened to Hannity as well... I wonder, do they even teach civics classes these days? That was where I honed my political debate skills and at a fairly young age at that.
