When I was young and before I was born my family had several people who worked and lived with us. These people were not really employable in the full sense of the word. One of the women was legally blind. She cooked and nursed children, one of the men lived in the basement and stoked the coal burner. These people had a place to stay until the end of their days, food and family, we buried one of them, and in turn they helped my family grow and prosper. They were paid very small amounts and some of them supplemented their income with other jobs.

I cannot find anyone today who would want a warm home and assistance, and the liability and employment laws would prohibit this sort of arrangement. Sad becasue it gives meaning to people's lives to be included instead of sitting in group home or in section 8 housing.

No offense...you family did a nice thing and all, but we used to call that slavery I think.
