CBS newsman's $70m lawsuit likely to deal Bush legacy a new blow (Dan Rather strikes back!)
Guardian UK ^ | Sunday 28 December 2008 | Christopher Goodwin

Posted on 12/27/2008 9:06:59 PM PST by pillut48

"After an outcry from the White House and conservative bloggers who claimed that the report had been based on falsified documents, CBS retracted the story, saying that the documents' authenticity could not be verified. Rather, who had been with CBS for decades and was one of the most familiar faces in American journalism, was fired by the network the day after the 2004 election."

The false docs were used to dump Rather instead of Bush? And Rather is mad? Don’t play with fire Dan.

Rather must be suffering from dementia. The again dementia is widespread amongst leftists everywhere so this isn’t unusual.

Rather contends pretends not only that his report was true - "What the documents stated has never been denied, by the president or anyone around him," he says -

The docs are fakes. There is nothing to deny.

I gather that Guardian readers must be the dimmest bulbs in the UK chandelier.

Rather broadcast a story based on newly discovered documents which appeared to show that Bush, whose service in the Texas Air National Guard ensured that he did not have to fight in Vietnam

There, fixed it. I'm sure that the Guardian will thank me.

Dan Blather had lost all credibility long before “Letter-Gate.”

His one statement, which I heard with my own superb hearing, “fake but accurate”, should cause anything this man says, accuses, writes or even dreams about to be discounted as the ravings of a mad man.

I have an O family member/voter, who has a BA and MA, and informed me that she learned from a “conservative” professor that Bush’s parents bought his way into the Guard to keep him safe! This is the kind of idiocy a student hears in graduate school?! And the sad part is the kid really believes this and thinks her teacher was a conservative. My tag line becomes ever more appropriate.

Its an argument that doesn’t hold water and reflects a complete ignorance of the times. Had Bush wished to avoid the dangers associated with Vietnam and limited the time that he was required to serve, he would have made a far different choice. He could have joined a Guard or Reserve unit in a role that required no responsibility and contained no risk of danger. Or, he could have received a commission for two years of active duty in a branch that ensured that he would not see contact. His family’s political connections could have seen to it.

Instead, he joined the Air National Guard and trained as a fighter pilot. This reqiured more active duty time than the two years required of reserve officers commissioned from ROTC or from draftees. Moreover, Bush flew the F-106, a very demanding aircraft that had a high accident rate. I believe that he chose the Air National Guard route because he wanted to fly as his father had done and this was the best choice for him to realize that ambition.

The undeniable fact is that he served his country in a very dangerous role. I don’t recall that Barack Obama or Bill Clinton ever chose to serve their country in uniform.

Hey, Rather!

Some guy named Howard Beale set a good example for you - and he’s just as real as your memo so I suggest you follow that example. Soon. Please.

I thought Rather passed away.

Rather still lives, however, his mind passed away sometime ago. BDS claimed another victim.

It’s simple. If you believe Rather’s docs were genuine, you have to believe that thirty years ago, Dubya’s unit had access to a PC with Microsoft Word. You have to believe that was even possible. That’s the only way those things are real.

I’d settle for Dan getting the “primal forces of nature” speech from Sumner Redstone.
