Joe Biden blithely declared that there will be no earmarks in the stimulus package. Well, that's because the stimulus package is one gigantic earmark. Obama's transition team is promising that its $700 billion, or $850 billion, or $1 trillion, or whatever it now is "stimulus" won't include pork-barrel spending. By all accounts, the $73 billion wish list may be the largest collection of parochial spending projects in American history. Strolling through the 800 pages, we found such beauties as: $1 million to upgrade the L.A. Convention center "catwalk" for cameras and lighting; $350,000 for an Albuquergue fitness center; $94 million for a parking garage at the Orange Bowl in Miami; $4.5 million for Gretna, FL to bottle water with recyclable bottles; a $35 million music hall of fame in Missouri, and $3.1 million for a swimming pool in Tulsa. Let's at least be honest: none of this has much to do with lauded goals of speeding an economic recovery or "creating" jobs. They may put a few people to work for a while, albeit while taking money out of the private economy to pay for them. All these boondoggle projects and the whole notion of "shovel-ready" projects seem awfully outdated - hardly the stuff of the new economy and the new politics many pundits saw coming with the Obama administration. We're back to nationalizing industries, creating make-work projects of dubious value and piling up a mound of debt. It sounds like a compilation of the worst ideas of the last 70 years.

The current issue of National Review magazine has an article outlining the dire threat this proposed out-of-control spending plan poses for our future economy and our international fiscal stability. It reads in part: "The most likely and least desirable outcome is that a passel of new spending projects of questionable worth will be green-lighted quickly by a panicked Congress, only to be mired in bureaucracy until the recovery is already underway, and then live on long after the crisis that inspired them has passed. In this case we will have added to the national debt without having added to the national well-being. The economic amphetamine of 2009 will become an economic barbiturate when the bills come due. And the bills will come due."

>>$94 million for a parking garage at the Orange Bowl in Miami<<

Didn’t they just make a parking lot out of the Orange Bowl with some well-placed C4? C4 ain’t THAT expensive!

Typical Democratic tactics: “NO earmarks here!” It’s all earmarks. They simply create a bald-faced lie and start telling it, knowing full well that their media arm (the MSM) will propagandize the masses with it, and knowing full well that the masses will do exactly zero research into the issue for themselves. See Obama election strategy. Lather. Rinse. Repeat.

And our argument against this is? Our party with leader GWB has given us a problem here.

If the US federal reserve note becomes worthless, can we still use it to pay off all debts public and private? I’d rather pay my mortgage off with a ten cent dollar than a dollar dollar.

Right. Some psychologists say that pathological liars eventually come to believe their lies are true. I wonder how many of the liberal Dems actually believe their own BS by now?

Have you seen that Gordon Liddy ad where he throws a dollar bill away and says gold is the best value? I’m beginning to think he might be on to something - you can’t print gold like you can paper currency!

That’s for sure. But I’ve heard some financial experts say we might take a bath even before our kids do.

Good point. Somehow we’ve got to get a Reaganite conservative majority back in the party. Our RINOs and “me too but not as much” Republicans still have to learn that they’ll never out-pander liberals. Bush and McCain have been good on national defense but it takes more than that. On dometic affairs they’ve sold us conservatives down the river.

It’s only a matter of time people... When this congress bankrupts nearly every American and then leans on the law abiding, tax payig citizens to bail out EVERYTHING, well...

Sooner or later someone, somewhere, is going to take it out of the hide of some member of congress. Could be an ass whoopin, could be an assassination, could be the guy burns someones house down. Who kows. But it’s gonna happen. Members of congress are completely oblivious to the fact that for many Americans this is getting downright personal.

I am too. Sometimes a nation has to hit bottom before it wakes up. My biggest fear is that some of the damage his regime does will be irreversible. Let’s hope we can get enough senators in the next mid-term election that we can at least preserve the filibuster. Right now there are too many RINOs to be safe.

I may be wrong but I think too many Americans don’t know what’s going to happen to them with Obama and a Democratic Congress. When the reality hits home some of your scenarios are possible - anything is when people really grasp that the Titanic has hit the iceberg.

Biden is a nut-case of the first order. One of Obama’s priorities will be explaining why he ever took this guy on as vp except to unload on him in the future.

RE :”On dometic affairs they’ve sold us conservatives down the river”

Sold us out and yet got no credit for it, they managed to come off as party for the rich. We need someone conservative and articulate who will stand up to R party when they do things wrong but does not go out and cut secret deals with other side like on Immigration and bailouts. Selling conservative ideals to public, not caving in and getting our side dirty too.

Communication and selling ideas is the key, and SS private accounts wouldnt sell partially because of federal deficit, borrow money from China/Japan to set up savings accounts for thoes that pay no income taxes, and he was willing to raise cap on SS taxes. This was the start of his 2005 disaster.
