Her sinking with the loss of almost 1,200 lives caused such outrage that it propelled the U.S. into the First World War.
But now divers have revealed a dark secret about the cargo carried by the Lusitania on its final journey in May 1915.
Munitions they found in the hold suggest that the Germans had been right all along in claiming the ship was carrying war materials and was a legitimate military target.
The Cunard vessel, steaming from New York to Liverpool, was sunk eight miles off the Irish coast by a U-boat.

Historical ping.
Let’s just rewrite all of history to make America look like the bad guys.
As a student of history, it has been accepted for a while that the British were carrying munitions on the ship. This revealed also the different standards that Wilson held the British and Germans to. By conducting submarine warfare, Wilson saw the Germans as impeding human rights since it prevented people from traveling freely. This was much worse to Wilson than the British violating property rights by conducting a blockade of Germany.
Known long ago, not new.
It wasn’t the Americans, it was the british who loaded her full of munitions.
DuPont was just making a buck....and we were neutral at the time.
Frankly, any American retarded enough to board the “Lucy” after the Germans published that warning in the papers deserved what happened to them.
And we had no business ever getting involved in WWI. And we wouldn’t have except for that socialist globalist Wilson and his eminance grise Edward Mandell House......

Indeed.
It's mentioned but not shown in the article.
It made an impression on me when I first saw it decades ago. I'm glad you appreciate it, knowing that you did makes the effort to find it worthwhile.
Actually Germany was justifyed in sinking the Lucy, as it had formally declared war and had intel that the ship contained armamaments. The US was both opportunistic and nuetral. The bad guys were the UK, who sought to entangle the US in a fighting war.
I was just being a smartass.
“Lets just rewrite all of history to make America look like the bad guys.”
Not at all.
If this story is confirmed, the only “bad guys” are the persons who approved or concealed the event, including the media at the time.
I also don’t accept that assigning blame to our elite in government and media - as though they care about the real America - is the same as “blaming America”.
If it is acceptable to conceal historical facts about the sinking of the Lusitania to make the federal government look good, isn’t it also acceptable to conceal facts about say, Waco, to make the federal government look good?
