With only 26 days left to harangue, mock and bash President Bush, some of our colleagues in the media aren't wasting a day. Bashing ex-presidents, except for the ex-presidents with shrill prominent wives, isn't nearly as much fun as bashing while he's still the real thing.
There's method in the gladness at the New York Times, which relieved itself at the beginning of Christmas week with an umpity-thousand word accusation - beginning on Page One and continuing across several acres of newsprint inside - that George W. Bush invented the meltdown of the subprime housing market, which in turn has led to the collapse of Detroit and all kinds of bad things for Atchison, Topeka and maybe even Santa Fe.
The point of the epic was clearly to portray George W. as the new Herbert Hoover, so that when recession becomes Depression (with the capital-D) not a single rabbit will be safe anywhere and everyone will remember who did it and - voila! - the Republicans will be shut out of the White House and control of the Congress for a generation, and maybe more.
It's not quite fair picking on the New York Times, which has had a rough week, having to apologize for printing a fake letter from the mayor of Paris belittling the Senate qualifications of Caroline Kennedy, and then, worse, for printing a recipe for a fennel and citrus salad that omitted instructions for using "the finely grated zest of one lemon." Life is tough on the Upper East Side, for man and fennel alike. The rush to get in a last few licks at a sitting Republican president is a game a lot of bashers play. Some of the bloggers were bitterly disappointed - complaining is the main point of blogging -

After the way the Dems have treated G.W. Bush for the last 8 years, I think we all should throw crap at the dems and obamma lamma ding dong from the get go.
Nah. They’ll be bashing him long after he has left office.
The Obama Depression is of the Democrats own making. Never forget that.
26 days my a$$, the Bush-bashing will continue in the media as long as it takes to cover the screw-ups of Hussein. I predict a long time.
How can I forget,
I’ll be paying for it through my childrens children forever.
He's already laid the ground work by saying, "IT WILL TAKE YEARS TO FIX THIS MESS".
He will be playing that ULTIMATE ALIBI (and excuse that any politician could only dream of) over and over and over,,,,,with the MSM regularly reminding us over and over and over.
I’ll bash Bush for a few more years because he’s too liberal.
Pruden is 100% wrong. Barry will blame Bush for the next 4/8 years. He will be just like the majoriy of US citizens today. Ask almost any citizen today and they will blame someone else for their poor decisions.
“Ill bash Bush for a few more years because hes too liberal.”
Hey, Bush is not running for reelection. He is leaving the office in a few weeks. Maybe you ought to find something more constructive to do for a few years. People like you are the reason so called conservatives can’t get together.
“Nah. They’ll be bashing him long after he has left office”
Hate can last a long time, the left still can’t get over Alger Hiss and the “Christmas Bombing” ... President Nixon will be forever reviled for those. President Bush commented an equally egregious offense, he prevented the Democrats from stealing the 2000 election. This can last a long time ... heck, the Muslims still haven’t gotten over the Crusades.
You’re incorrect when you said that people like me “are the reason so called conservatives can’t get together.” I’m trying to organize a huge meeting, of competing factions, of Illinois conservative leaders, in Jan. 2009, to ask them why they don’t cooperate and to ask them to work together, in the 2010 elections.
The bashing will not stop.
Everything good that Bush accomplished will automatically be credited by liberals to policies of the new Obama administration and what the democrats did in the past.
As many have posted here, the Bush bashing will continue well into Obama’s Administration.
However, it will be interesting to watch a few commentators asking “When does Obama take responsibility for anything that is happening?”
I predict that will happen before the end of the first year.
The Ones junta will be blaming Bush for the next four years.
For the next decade, Obama will take and be given credit for anything with a positive spin and Bush will get blamed for everything else.
The Democrats “mistreated” GWB because he so wanted them to like him. Had he stood firm to them, things may have been different. He should also have been both “compassionate” and “conservative”. GWB is the ticket to perpetual Democrat dominance, I fear.
I will show more respect (very little) to Obammy than the Left gave President Bush.
As for disgusting disrespect to Dubya, way too many freepers are as guilty as the barking moonbats at Duh.
