This is a nice website where the grassroots can have their voices heard. Personally, I've been leaning towards Ken Blackwell. I encourage everyone interested to check it out, vote, and leave comments.

I like Ken, and was proud to vote for him to be governor. But the RINOs will never allow it.

You know, I’m at the point where I really dont give a crap. Are the Republicans that much different from the Democrats? There are few true Conservatives anywhere in politics. The Republicans wanted amnesty for illegals. The Republicans bailed out the banks. The Republicans have lost the culture war. The GOP is just Pelosi/Reid light. I want a real Conservative Party to take our country back from the Muslim Marxist, George Soros, and the other scum that have bought it out from under us.

I voted for Katon Dawson, the SC Chairman. Dawson clearly is the most successful of the candidates in the running. The worst of the bunch is Anuzis of Michigan. He is an unheralded disaster in that state and couldn’t even benefit in building gains against one of the worst Governors in the country, Granholm. He must have the arrogance of Slick Willard to think shrinking (or killing) the party he chairs should be rewarded with promotion.

This comment was left:

I'm supporting Jim because Michael Steele is a closeted liberal Republican. Steele believes Roe v. Wade should be the law of the land. "My desire is that we follow what stare decisis is at this point." (Oct. 29, 2006/NBC's "Meet the Press")

Steele also supports affirmative action, saying "Studies show enormous disparities still exist in education, health care, employment and economic opportunities along racial lines in the United States. I believe programs are still necessary to help close these divides. I support giving people opportunities. Programs must be fair to all Marylanders - of every color - and they should focus on economic empowerment." (Aug. 7, 2006/Baltimore Sun)"

-- Nikki T. Baltimore, MD

Don't know if that's all true or not, but makes me want to check it out.

Steele. He ran an intelligent, but losing, campaign in 2006; people still talk about his commercials. He’d be a great face for the RNC - no sense in losing him as a perennial also-run in MD.

Steele is a good cut-and-thrust arguer on the cable shows, but beyond that I’m not convinced he has great qualifications. Not overly enthused about any of them, I’m afraid. I was for Newt Gingrich for the short time he was in the running. Hated his ideas about immigration and Puerto Rico statehood and his weakness for pop guru new agey stuff, but he was key to the Republicans’ successes the most recent time that they had broad credibility and governing success as a conservative party, in Congress at least.

I don’t have any idea who to support. What I want is a person who fully supports a constitutionally limited government as envisioned by our founding fathers, and a person who believes in defeating democrats as opposed to working with them. I want a person who spends party resources on the election of conservative candidates and on the defeat of liberal candidates as well as the accursed RINOs who have ruined this party. I am not aware of anyone like this at this time.

Sitting in rural Wisconsin, I’m not that familiar with the former Lt. Governor from Maryland, but Michael Steele has been an excellent sub on Bennett’s morning program. I’ve found his positions regarding the role of the Federal Government to be very appropriate.

I’m inclined to give him my support, albeit in a very narrow window where I’ve just begun my formulating my opinion. Any feedback from the MD localites?

I’d go for either...

“TR” Roosevelt or,
Barry Goldwater or,
Ronald Reagan.

Having met more than one of these candidates, my vote is definitely in favor of former Sec'y of State (OH) Ken Blackwell. The man is truly a "conservative's conservative."

He worked hard to prevent OH from being stolen away from Bush standing toe-to-toe with ACORN, etc. and other "minority shills" and unfortunately lost his own race for Governor.

Ken's a true gentlemen, loving husband and devoted father.

He's not a "make-believe" conservative with RINO tendencies. For that reason, the powers that be at the RNC will pick someone much more acceptable to the "Big Tent" folks who desire again to appeal to the vast "moderates" presumed in the country.

Can't win elections that way and Reagan proved it but mods continue believe that someone like McCain pull in the "Indys" and dimocRATS.

If you feel that way, Blackwell wouldn't be your first choice.

2000 and 2004 there was a woman from the south - she was her State’s Republican chairperson. TN or Georgia, maybe. She was very well spoken and savvy! If I remember correctly, she had a young child.

I have expected to see more of her ...... anyone know who I mean?

I did background reading on Blackwell and he appears to be a solid conservative. But I don’t think that’s enough.

Something needs to be added to the last sentence of post #20, that an RNC leader must also be a brilliant strategist and tactician in campaigns. Gingrich and Delay are proven in these.

I was told that Delay needs to lay low and not be high profile. If he is cleared soon of all the crap allegations thrown at him, then IMO he should lead the party.

Gingrich absolitely must be given an influential position. He is too brilliant a politician to not have executive power in the GOP.
