Obama to Deep Six Marriage, Promote Cohabitation
Heritage Foundation ^ | Dec. 18, '08 | Robert Rector

Posted on 12/24/2008 4:32:52 PM PST by T.L.Sink

Being raised by two married biological parents has considerable benefits for a child. By contrast, simple cohabatation by biological parents is highly unstable and does not deliver significant long-term benefits. On the other hand, sequential cohabitation by single mothers with men unrelated to the child can actually prove harmful to the children. Actual marriage between biological parents continues to decline. In 2006, the out-of-wedlock birthrates among blacks was 70.7%, among Hispanics, 49.9% and among non-Hispanic whites, 26.6%. The American Left has traditionally regarded marriage as an imprisoning institution. Thus the left has watched the steady decline of marriage with indifference or quiet satisfaction. This scornful attitude persists despite the overwhelming evidence that the decline of marriage is the principal cause of child poverty and welfare dependence and is linked to a vast array of other social problems. The Obama administration will almost certainly persist in this anti-marriage attitude despite occasional lip-service to the contrary. For example, the Obama team plans to abolish the miniscule "black healthy marriage initiative" created inside HHS and replace it with a "healthy families" program resting on the tired false premise that single parenthood, cohabitation, and marriage are interchangeable and all of equal value to children, adults and society. Further erosion of marriage within low income communities can be expected.

Thanks a million for that reference and I intend to sign the petition. It’s vital that the conservative base recapture the values of Reagan and other great conservatives and reject the RINO, “me too, but not as much,” versions of liberalism-lite. A blessed and joyous Christmas season to you.

Frankly, I’ve been so nauseated with Noonan’s plaintive whining, sighing, and (seemingly) gasping-for-breath verbal commentaries that I don’t even listen to her anymore. She’s only got a small audience due her past role as speech writer in the Reagan administration. Maybe now she wants to write speeches for Obama and pimp for pay.

I think it’s all part of the trendy PC thought of moral and ethical relativism and political moral equivalence that’s been rotting our culture for decades now.

I don’t know if you saw that news blurb on Fox yesterday, but it’s interesting that both Pastor Rick Warren and the Pope are being excoriated and demonized for their religious opposition to gay marriage. So much for the tolerance of many gays when they see any disagreement with the agenda thay want to impose.

Neither Bill Clinton nor Barack Obama were children of a valid marriage,

To be fair, the Clinton's legal father, whether he was his biological father is open to question, died in a car wreck before he was born.

Obama's supposed biological father, legal is a matter of international law, since his father had another wife at the time, and before he supposedly married BHO's mother. But if the marriage took place in Kenya, it would be legal, if in the US, maybe not. Then BHO Sr. died in a car wreck. Both of their fathers were a bit too fond of the sauce, likely contributing to the car wrecks.

It helps explain why the Left does not value marriage. Their heroes do not value marriage.
