The gray tabby cat scrunched at the bottom of a stack of metal cages. If it was male or female, young or old, nobody seemed to know or care. All that mattered was its weight: 6 1/2 pounds. After a few calculations, the shopkeeper offered to sell the cat for $1.32 per pound, about $9. "We'll cut it up right here in back for you," the shopkeeper suggested. The scene is routine at butcher shops in the capital of Guangdong Province, formerly Canton. Dog is eaten in many parts of China, but the human consumption of cat meat is special to Guangdong. "Cat meat is good for women. You can eat it in the summer or winter. It is very light," said Jiang Changlin, a customer. The Small Animal Protection Association says one Guangzhou-based business captures as many as 10,000 cats per day from throughout China. The cat snatchers are typically unemployed people who are paid $1.50 per cat.
But now fellow Chinese are drawing the line. "Cats are your friends, not food," read the banners carried at a demonstration at Guangzhou train station, where protesters were trying to intercept a shipment of cats. And cat lovers are increasingly taking matters into their own hands -- staging late-night ambushes of trucks carrying cats to Guangdong. Said Lu Di, 80, who founded the Small Animal Protection Association: "You can judge how advanced a civilization is by the way it treats its animals. This is a crime that humiliates all Chinese people."

While I don’t want to think about eating my cat, I don’t judge others for their food. Some judge me about sweet little deer.
I have 2 cats and they are family members. It is sickening how they are treated over there.
My only worry is that these are stolen pets rather than feral cats.
in china pets?
I think most living things are food in China.
I guess this means the Guangdongg Peking Moon will soon be closed for remodeling.
Like I said in another thread, how about they just eat each other and the over population problem will sort itself out.
It’s not wise to eat the flesh of a flesh eater. It’s my opinion that this is why the old testament cautions against eating swine. swine are opportunists and will eat meat. meat eaters have a higher incidence of parasites and disease.
Disgusting. However, its kind of ridiculous to fight for kittie rights in a country that crushes demonstrators with tanks, and locks up dissidents in concentration camps.
That said, there is no big difference between eating cats and eating pigs. Its kind of arbitrary we befriend cats and dogs but eat other animals.
So people shouldn’t eat any seafood be it freshwater or saltwater since they are all fleah eaters.
During WW-II, the best chinese resturant in Norfolk, Virgina, was in a downtown second story Granby Street location; and it was noted for its excellent Chop Suey.
Meat, however, was rationed during WW-II.
That great Chinese restaurant was closed after authorities found garbage cans filled with cat skins behind the restaurant.
Deer are natural prey animals; cats are not.
What wine goes best with cat?
Neither are the millions of chickens raised in chicken houses.
Don’t worry. Before long, cat meat will be popular in the urban and suburban areas of the USA, too. ...unless we get a better manufacturing and agricultural base going again soon.
PINK Champagne

Not on my watch it won’t. Besides, if it ever comes to that there will be plenty of other problems to worry about.
