Atlas Shrugs.
My Motto: "If you love your wife and kids, keep your yard nice, and work hard, I don't care if you are Purple, you can live next door to me!" ;)
And another one shrugs.

He ran out of Hope and needed a Change.
You just wait.
One of these days, Allegheny County is gonna tax itself into prosperity.
“One of these days, Allegheny County is gonna tax itself into prosperity.”
:-)!!! Heck yeah! All of that property I’ve been holding in Rankin, Duquesne, Homewood-Brushton, Hazelwood, and the Hill District will be worth billions :-)!
I was always taught to say “Yes Sir, Mr. Police Officer”, and I have yet to be shot even once.
You don’t know Hazelwood. Second Avenue has lots of empty lots where banks and busineses once were. The land isn’t worth anything. Hazelwood was once a nice middle class neighborhood. The mills closed and as the jobs deteriorated, things changed. Its not as much of a race thing as it is a class thing.
Hazelwood (back when the D’Imperios would have oppenned their store) was a nice mill workers neighborhood. Some nice, big, Pittsburgh four square houses up the side streets that intersect Second Avenue. Well, they used to be nice
J and L’s Second Avenue Works went down; the retiree who didn’t move (alwys move folks don’t stay in a dying neighborhood beacuse its ‘home’) well they died off; a public housing high rise came in and then the estates of those last clinging home owners sold to ‘developers’ who turned the homes into Section 8 housing. The recipe for death to any community.
I know Hazelwood really well Had been to D’Imperios quite a few times infact. A lot of my extended family were either married at or buried from St. Stephens. I hope the D’Imperios have a nice retirement and never look back...
After we left California in the 90s my wife got a job as a bank teller in Macon, GA and ran into one of these "You're picking on me 'cause I'm black!" types (she asked for ID to cash a check). She said, "Oh, I'm sorry, where's your license?" "License, whut license you talkin' 'bout?" "Why, the license that says that you're better than anyone else and don't have to obey the rules."
The white guy behind him started laughing, the black guy stormed out, and the other tellers, looking horrified, told her she'd be fired. Everyone thought the NAACP and ACLU would be down there but nobody ever showed up. The manager called her in and asked if she said that. She said yes, figuring she's out of a job. The manager said "Don't do it again." and let it drop. The manager was a good ole boy but had to toe the PC line but I suspect he wanted to pat her on the back. Both of us were astonished/fed up at the way the whites sucked up to the militant blacks. Everybody tip-toed around and kissed their azz - quite a change from when I was down there in the '60s.
The guy never came back to that bank - at least on my wife's watch.
Same goes in the District of Columbia. Most auto thieves who are arrested are non-papered by the DA. The DC homicide clearance rate is one of the lowest in the country. Theives will typically rob someone in Maryland PG county or Virginia and scoot over to DC because they know they will not be punished.
Has already happened in another neighborhood. There's been no grocery stores in the Hill District in the 'burgh for years. They were shoplifted and robbed out of existence. The "No Justice, No Peace" crowd is now shaking down the construction of the new Penguin's stadium for "donations", jobs and a grocery store. It's racist that Whitey won't provide victims, err "employers" so that the yutes can "get paid".
Welcome to Galt's Gulch, friend!
“We’ve been working here for the benefit of thieves,”
Some of us might be inclined to put investment banks and bankers in that category...
Who is John Galt?Funny -- before I even finished the story, I was thinking:
I wonder if they considered making it a shopping club, like Costco where shoppers must purchase an annual membership card that they permenantly lose if they are caught stealing!
