In defending his choice of Warren, Obama went further than arguing for inclusion: He argued for civility. "We can disagree without being disagreeable, and then focus on those things that we hold in common as Americans."
Who can argue with that? Too bad it is only the political right that gets tagged by the media for bad manners. The president-elect may have to rap some liberal knuckles to convince them he really wants a better public tone from everyone.
Many have called Obama's choice of Warren "shrewd." That may be, or perhaps Obama means what he says. We will see. In the meantime, I congratulate the president-elect for inviting Warren and I admire his refusal to back down under pressure from the extreme wing of his political base.

Obama follows the dictum of WC Fields: "Never give a sucker an even break."
So, that makes his score about -204 now...
Well, someone has to pick up the mantle of soon-to-be-history Billy Graham. Warren must see himself as the logical heir. Not that many others do, but that can be fixed with the help of a demogogue president and a willing stable of media flunkies.
If the rabid gay activists are foaming at the mouth about Zer0 choosing Warren for the invocation, that makes me happy.
Hey, you voted for the guy, deal with it.

It is important to us that the gay vote stay home in 2010.
Better yet, I’m hoping the conservatives recognize this as the cheap political move that it is. Not unlike Obama’s inability to define a child.
Amen! They are like 2% of the population but they are over represented in the entertainment industry.
If he isn’t backing down, it’s only for self-serving ulterior motives. I admire him for nothing.
