The Phoenix Police Department received a donation from Valley native and Saturday Night Live alum David Spade Monday morning.
Spade, who stars on the CBS sitcom "Rules of Engagement," stopped at a northeast Phoenix precinct to give Police Chief Jack Harris a check.
Mayor Phil Gordon and other local officials also were there.
A police spokesman says Spade called police last week asking to donate to the rifle program.
Police and the Phoenix Law Enforcement Association have been working toward getting at least 300 rifles for patrol officers.
Spade, 44, grew up in Scottsdale and still has family in Arizona.
Is his middle name “Sam”?
FOX News just reported that he refused to give a press conference on this and he gave $25k to the family of a fallen Phoenix police officer last year. I don’t think he’s doing it for publicity.
I would hope those videos are on YouTube.

I heard Spade mention on a radio show that he keeps a loaded shotgun for his own defense.

I saw this story tonight on Fox News as well as the original story about a week ago. These rifles(AR-15s) that the police wanted were referred to repeatedly as semi-automatic rifles(which they are). Not once,in either story, did they use the phrase “assault weapon”.
It woulda been nice to see him donate 50k for cop rifles and 50k for boyscout 10/22s...

He donated $50,000 to the widow of a slain Phoenix police officer last year as well.
Because last week officers were asking to bring their own weapons to work because they are woefully outgunned — in other words for their own safety... Spade grew up in this area and graduated from University of Arizona, he is giving back to the community... what is the problem with that?
I loved Spade’s role playing the “straight man” in the slapstick comedy “Tommy Boy”.
I haven’t seen any boy scouts being gunned down by illegals and gang bangers on the streets of Phoenix, clearly you haven’t been following the situation down there.
Mexican drug cartels are well funded, well armed and protected by Johnny Sutton.
And Spade dated Heather Locklear for a time a couple of years ago, which raised him several notches in my book.
