FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) - Add this to the growing list of Plaxico Burress' problems: getting in a car crash and not having insurance on his nearly $140,000 Mercedes-Benz.
The suspended New York Giants wide receiver was sued last week in Florida's Broward County Circuit Court for rear-ending a woman in May.
Compounding the Super Bowl star's defense, according to a document provided by the woman's attorney, is the fact his car insurance lapsed three days before the crash. A letter from Allstate says Burress neglected to pay his premiums.
Burress is still serving a team suspension for shooting himself Nov. 29 in a nightclub with an illegally carried handgun. Burress shot himself at the Latin Quarter when he accidentally pulled the trigger on the .40-caliber Glock that was in his pants after fumbling a drink.

First Kobe, now this...when did they stop teaching people how to write in journalism school?
it rains it pours
1st Down!
I bet he “makes it rain” wit all his money.
He’s going to end up in jail and bankrupt.
With such a valuable commodity, you’d think the Giants would have had a handler with this clown.
Damn. I love Plaxico and I think that his suspension affected the Giants mental game in the weeks following Plax’s shooting himself. I am, however, happy to report that the Giants seem to be back in the game after last night’s win!
C’mon Plaxico! Get it together and get your hiney back out on the field!
I believe most states require “financial responsibility”.
I suspect he has the resources necessary to ‘self-insure’ with no problem.

“Rich Dumb@$$ with a gun”.
LOL!!!!!!!
Let that be a lesson..
‘he accidentally pulled the trigger on the .40-caliber Glock that was in his pants after fumbling a drink .. ‘
the old .40 cal fumblerookski, hut HUT .. blam.
be careful with that drink and your weapon. :-}
Any doctors care to tell me where ones Latin Quarter is?
Yeah, but I think if you want to do that you’re supposed to put the money in savings or some type of non-volatile investment, and if you take it out, the DMV gets notified same as if your insurance expires.
As a practical matter, if he pays the damages he probably walks, especially since the insurance had only lapsed three days.
See what happens when you leave the Steelers?
So easy, even a wide receiver can do it!
Ah the Latin Quarter. I'm pretty sure this isn't the old Latin Quarter of my youth (on 47th & Broadway) but I have many fond memories of closing up my nights there and several times left with one one of the dancers attached.
Rich enough to self-insure but he pro’ly didn’t complete the paperwork. Heck, he should have one of his posse handle this stuff for him. Don’t sports agents make sure big-talent/little-brain clients are protected?
Did this guy get a degree? And from where?
Note to self:
Never hire anyone from that school.
I jes bees tri’in to keeps up wid Ricky Wiliams.
I didn’t get beyond the ...”he rear ended the woman”
