“An awful lot of older shotguns have fixed chokes which, to me at least, makes them borderline for worthless regardless of how many diamonds and how much gold they include. Another one of these sports which got reinvented recently.”
Actually, many of the newer shotguns made by Purdey, Boss and other high end makers still have fixed chokes. Guys in Clapton’s income bracket don’t have to worry about changing out chokes for different types of game, or different situations, they just have additional guns made with the needed chokes.
Incidentally, if you spot an old Winchester 21, or Purdey, etc with fixed chokes, feel free to pass it on to me. I realize they’re antiquated, but out of the goodness of my heart I’ll take them off your hands (heck, I’ll even pay shipping).

I have several double barrel guns I would love to have modified for screw-in chokes. But then I just grab my Remington 870 with the Cutts Compensator barrel, and head for the field.Good side by sides are 'regulated' at the shop to pattern 'just so' at a particular range, depending on the customer's requirements. A gun with two or three barrel sets cased together is the norm.

How come I never find an EPC monogrammed Purdy and Sons shotgun in the local gun shop? Try Holland & Holland in NYC or Griffin & Howe in either CT or NJ, then can hook you up with an unmonogrammed one (and if you can afford the gun, the cost of the trip won't be an issue).

Mr. Clapton usually comes to Florida each year and I go with my wife to see him. Matured quite well.

I thought gun ownership was outlawed in the U.K.? No - most kinds of shotgun and hunting rifle, among others, have always remained legal.
