..UNSETTLED WEATHER THIS WEEK...
A COUPLE OF PACIFIC STORMS WILL AFFECT SOUTHWEST CALIFORNIA NEXT
WEEK. THIS WILL BRING UNSETTLED WEATHER WITH PERIODS OF RAIN AND
MOUNTAIN SNOW.
THE FIRST SYSTEM APPROACHING FROM THE NORTHWEST WILL MOVE THROUGH
MONDAY WITH RAIN AND MOUNTAIN SNOW. SHOWERS WILL LINGER INTO
TUESDAY. MOST OF THE COLD AIR WILL INITIALLY REMAIN TO THE NORTHEAST
WITH THE LOCAL SNOW LEVELS 5500 TO 6500 FT MONDAY THEN LOWERING TO
BETWEEN 4000 AND 4500 FT TUESDAY.
RAINFALL TOTALS SHOULD RANGE FROM ABOUT HALF NEAR THE COAST TO ABOUT
AN INCH ON THE LOWER COASTAL MOUNTAIN SLOPES. UP TO ABOUT A THIRD OF
AN INCH IS EXPECTED IN THE DESERTS. LOCAL SNOW ACCUMULATIONS OF 4 TO
8 INCHES WILL BE POSSIBLE AT THE HIGHER ELEVATIONS OF THE
SAN BERNARDINO COUNTY MOUNTAINS WITH ABOUT 3 TO 6 INCHES IN THE
RIVERSIDE COUNTY MOUNTAINS AND 1 TO 3 INCHES IN THE SAN DIEGO COUNTY
MOUNTAINS. THERE COULD ALSO BE AN INCH OR TWO OF SNOW ON THE HIGHER
PEAKS OF THE SANTA ANA MOUNTAINS. LOCALLY GREATER ACCUMULATIONS OF
RAIN AND SNOW ARE POSSIBLE DURING HEAVIER SHOWERS. GUSTY WINDS WILL
ACCOMPANY THIS SYSTEM...MAINLY LATE MONDAY AFTERNOON INTO TUESDAY IN
THE MOUNTAINS AND DESERTS.
ANOTHER STORM COULD BRING MORE RAIN AND MOUNTAIN SNOW WEDNESDAY WITH
SHOWERS LINGERING INTO FRIDAY. THE EXACT STRENGTH...TIMING AND PATH
OF THIS SYSTEM REMAIN UNCERTAIN...BUT IT COULD BRING SIMILAR
PRECIPITATION TOTALS AS THE STORM EARLIER IN THE WEEK.
PERIODS OF HEAVY RAIN WILL INCREASE THE FLASH FLOOD POTENTIAL.
PEOPLE IN AND BELOW RECENTLY BURNED AREAS OR NEAR STEEP TERRAIN
SHOULD BE PREPARED FOR POSSIBLE FLASH FLOODING AND DEBRIS FLOW. THE
SHOWERS WILL ALSO MAKE ROADS SLICK. SNOW...BLOWING SNOW AND DENSE
FOG WILL MAKE TRAVEL HAZARDOUS IN THE MOUNTAINS. OTHERWISE...THE
PRECIPITATION WILL BENEFIT IRRIGATION NEEDS. PEOPLE PLANNING OUTDOOR
ACTIVITIES SHOULD MONITOR THE LATEST WEATHER FORECASTS.
Dang forecasts! Trying to stay on top of them is a task in itself. Doesn’t look to be gullywashers anywhere that I can tell.. fingers crossed.
We’re headed into the Sierra Wednesday morning, hope to be in our room that afternoon, looks like some chains will be in order..

I finally dumped the rain guage yesterday, had a little over an inch in it from the last 10 days of moisture rolling thru here.
6 inches short for the year.. wow, for there, that’s quite a drop.
Before I came here, I was reading the forecaster discussion. In the 356am, he says, “Gusty winds have already developed in the mountains and the Antelope Valley...and with models showing 60 knot winds at 700 mb this afternoon.” I don’t know where in the AV he’s talking about, but there are no winds at all where I am. So it makes me curious about the whole game plan for us.
Damp and foggy this AM just south and east of LB Harbor....seemed a bit warmer last night...which is good.
