(Arnold) Governor reveals tricks of the trade on '60 Minutes' - Los Angeles Times

Reporting from Sacramento -- Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger hasn't said whether he would pursue another job in politics after his final term ends in two years. But there's at least one position he might be interested in, if he were eligible for it: president.

"Yeah, absolutely," Schwarzenegger said in an interview airing tonight on "60 Minutes" on CBS, when asked by correspondent Scott Pelley if he would like to be president. "I think that I am always a person that looks for the next big goal. And I love challenges. I always set goals that are so high, that are almost impossible to achieve."

At the moment, becoming president would be impossible. Schwarzenegger, who was born in Austria and became a U.S. citizen in 1983, is not a "natural born citizen" of the United States, as required by the Constitution.

Talk of amending the Constitution was a hot topic in California and Washington during Schwarzenegger's first couple of years in office, when some of his backers waged an "Amend for Arnold" campaign and members of Congress proposed changing the rule. Schwarzenegger has said he would welcome such a move but has mostly joked about running when asked about it publicly.

Matt David, his spokesman, noted that on "60 Minutes," the governor was responding to a theoretical question.

I guess he is also awaiting the Obama legal status. Maybe he could run for President of Austria some day?

I guess being conservative wasn’t in his bag of tricks. Maria probably tossed them away when she neutered his other bag.

".. I love challenges. I always set goals that are so high, that are almost impossible to achieve."

You are full of crap Arnold. You are a failure and it's not due to high expectations. During a time of soaring state revenues all you had to do was keep spending level with revenues. But you couldn't do that. You let your wife and her liberal Democrat friends call the shots and spent more, more, and more. You caved in like a scared little girl every time the press criticized you. Now California is facing fiscal ruin far worse than we were facing under Gray Davis. Congratulations, loser. So much for setting goals.

IMHO the Governor is so dumb he couldn't find Washington without a guide.

To think what he did to Kalifornia sends chills down my spine. And to think we used to rave about the ineptness and dollar largess of Governor Davis.

The Austrian’s ineptness and craven political calls defy any logical explanation other than tin-eared stupidity of the first order.

High, almost-impossible goals? Goals like "govern California"?

And if, God forbid, our Constitution is amended (or yet again ignored) and a Schwarzie-for-President booster is asked for any reason anyone should ever vote for a President Ahnold, said booster will stumble, fumble, bumble and crumble like Texas state Senator Kirk Watson did when trying to list Obama's legislative triumphs.

Don’t you just love the tricks they play to manipulate the people? Why don’t they just leave America alone and go away?

It wasn't in this case. But I don't understand your point anyway.

I sure wish more Republican conservatives would have been doing it all along like you and I and a few others here on FR!!!

This site is scruitinized in some pretty high powered circles and does have more influence that many FReepers have ever considered!!!

What I'm wondering, specifically in the context of discussion of the Constitution's "natural born" requirement (and let's not kid ourselves, there's a reason it's a mainstream new item now, it's on '60 Minutes' for goodness' sakes) is why the naturalized citizen governor, Schwarzenegger of California, is apparently being held up by the MSM as the more newsworthy example of the Constitutional test, and the native-born governor, Jindal of Louisiana, is given short schrift.

Granted, Arnold has his movie star background, and California is a bigger and more glamorous state, as well as a state known to set political trends. Bobby seems to be a sober, hard-working sort of guy, not seeking the spotlight for his own ego.

My theory is that by dwelling on the more obvious example of Arnold, the MSM is letting the more subtle controversy of "native born" (if indeed he was born in HI) BO slip in by the back door.

The press isn't willing to give time or effort to make the distinction between native-born and natural-born, if indeed it is aware of the distinction at all.

You may be right in what you say. In the pragmatic world people feel they must back people that can win an election.
While American politics has always been built on the art of compromise; I feel that losing sight of our values and goals for the sake of compromise has led the American aim to be off the mark.

That is my only point.

Also, we have backed candidates who can win over the years for so long that’s pretty much what all we do now. We have lost our foundation and issues.

For example: Immigration. This should have never happened.

With the way he and the liberals are screwing over my state he should run for cover.

I guess Arnie would be running on the Dem ticket or Independent. No Republican will vote for him.

This is the precedent that Obama has started, now it raises the question of "If Obama need not show his eligibility then why should I?" I for one would think that at the very least if we were to for now openly support the Governator for 2012 WITH Sarah Palin it would further disrupt the morale and base of the democratic left. They would now devote there time crashing into each other telling us and the world why Obama is eligible, of which they also have to back up.

I’ve been telling all of you for years - he’s going to put his money behind an effort to make the change and try to position himself for 2012. No doubt in my mind.

Will he succeed? I don’t know. We’ll fight it, but he may be the only one capable of beating a corrupt, entrenched Hillary. (Yes, Hillary. This close to the Presidency, there is no way she wont find a way to seize the reigns soon..)

I just love how they write, “at the moment”, and “ammending the constitution”. Haven’t they just about done that already, with them failing to verify that Obama is indeed a citizen? Come on, how hard is it to get a copy of your original birth certificate and just show it. People do it all the time when they are applying for a job. Not a single person knows exactly where Obama was born or what hospital he was born at, or even if he was born at home. And they all wonder why people are suspicous. All it takes, is for him to show the original, and the case is closed, (if he really turns out to be a citizen that is).
