Maybe they wish there were more Protestants. That would be more like the old days.

Really, care to go into detail on that?

Well, even in the ‘50s, it was notable to even find Roman Catholic members of Congress. Congress was almost totally comprised of believers in Protestant faiths, whether Mainline or Evangelical. The days before the 1950s were no different. A quick inspection of the studies on the religious affiliation of Congress will bear this out.

Perhaps that is what the LA Times is writing about.
