30 years in the US Senate is actually a black mark on one’s resume rather than some sort of badge of honor.

Was Warner ever conservative, or has he always been liberal?
In my relatively brief time following politics, he seems to me only pro defense, and center left on pretty much everything else.

Perhaps the worst Senator in the history of the state of Virginia. A black mark upon the state. In some ways RINO’s like John Warner are the worst of all worlds. He's almost a liberal but he's regularly referred to as a moderate Republican. Rubbish. Good riddance John. Don't let the door hit you in the *ss on the way out.

In 1994, Warner chose to oppose North, the party's Senate nominee, then best known for the Iran-Contra affair. Warner enticed J. Marshall Coleman, a former attorney general and the Republicans' 1989 gubernatorial nominee, to run for the Senate seat as an independent. Many Republicans blamed Warner for North's narrow loss to Democrat Charles S. Robb.
And that alone guarantees that when John-Elizabeth-Taylor-Warner leaves this mortal coil, that I will be irrigating the grass around his gravesite with some of my special MkJessup-Uric-Acid-Enzyme-Fertilizin' Fluid to be sure everything keeps that natural yellow tinge to match the shameful RINO streak running through and through him.
