A Democratic congressman compared Caroline Kennedy to Sarah Palin, saying the would-be senator hasn't proved she has the "guts and the gumption" to succeed Hillary Rodham Clinton.
Rep. Gary Ackerman of Queens said on CBS' "Face the Nation" Sunday that the Kennedy legend and connections won't be enough to make her a successful senator if Gov. David Paterson appoints her to the U.S. Senate.
"Everyone knows who she is, but I'm not sure what she is," said Ackerman. "Eventually she has to get in the ring, and face the public."
Kennedy launched a kind of listening tour last week, in which she visited upstate New York but spent most of her time in private meetings. While some Democrats praised Kennedy's effort, others like Ackerman did not.
"DNA in this business can take you just so far," said the congressman, before cracking a joke. "Rembrandt was a great artist. His brother Murray, on the other hand, Murray Rembrandt, wouldn't paint a house."
Ackerman previously ruffled feathers among New York Democrats by comparing Kennedy to actress Jennifer Lopez, saying they are both big names, but that doesn't mean Kennedy would make a good senator.
New York City Schools Chancellor Joel Klein defended her as a talented and committed person.
"In her own quiet but very effective way, she's going to be able to bring new ideas at a time this country needs them," said Klein. "I think Caroline Kennedy has all of the right stuff."
As for charges she is an out-of-touch elite, Klein said her work raising money for the public school system shows she is focused on the needs of those less fortunate than her.
Klein said her courage was evident in her endorsement of Barack Obama during the Democratic primaries, going against Clinton, the home state candidate.

No Palin had experience when she ran for the VP spot, Kennedy has no experience as she awaits her Senate coronation.
Surely Caroline, the Princess of the Kennedy Clan is not a bit like Sarah who actually ran for her positions in elections and won..and has actually done something in her state of Alaska. The question should be is Caroline Kennedy like THE ONE, THE MESSIAH, THE MOST GRACIOUS, who was also a community leader and raised money for causes like education...

No, Sarah has excutive experience and didn’t have to have it handed to her.

Has Caroline Kennedy ever been a governor, or actually elected to any public office, like, say, Governor Palin?
Well, they are alike in a couple of ways:
Both are physically attractive human women.
Both are kind of famous.
I think the comparisons probably end there.
One is a pampered princess who would be an anonymous little mouse were it not for who her mother and father were; the other can survive ON HER OWN on the tundra, in a jungle or in the harsh concrete jungles of of politics.
Ahhhh.... Palin’s been ELECTED to things... including Governor of the State of Alaska.
CK has been elected to squat.
Saracuda could take on freakin Caroline Kennedy and whoop her even if freakin Caroline Kennedy had a gun.
Gee, ya think just maybe freakin Caroline Kennedy wants to take away your guns?
By the way..speaking of our new Heroine, I sent the Gov of Alaska and Thanksgiving card and Christmas card too and got one from her office with the cutest picture of little Trig in a box with a Santa hat on under the tree with oodles of toys and gifts yet to open.Clearly they view little Trig as one of the best gifts the family has received..he is a doll! And there is on doubt they love this little bundle of magic to bits and bits.
It is really special at this time of year to think of that family and the bonds between them and the depth of the love for one another..

How demeaning to compare the two.
Palin is a politician - knowledgeable and fierce in her determination to lead according to how she sees fit. She
arrived on her own merit.
Kennedy (or Schlossberg?) is an accident of birth order nothing else. She is a money raiser - and if that is how people attain political stature here, we are a lost nation.
Mrs. Schlossberg is exactly like Sarah Palin, minus responsibilities and achievements.
I don’t know what it is with the Kennedy girls..it has to be genetic..but Eunice Kennedy has always been thin and as she aged she became ragged looking. Maria, her daughter is also very thin as is Caroline and there is something about these extremely thin women that makes them look much older than their actual years. Maybe there is something about this “you can never be too rich or too thin” thing that ain’t good.
