A New York City councilman accused of intentionally slashing his girlfriend in the face with a broken glass called it an "unfortunate accident" on Saturday.
"I have been charged with offenses that I did not commit and am not capable of committing," Hiram Monserrate, a Democratic councilman and state senator-elect, said in a statement a day after he was arrested on domestic violence charges.
Monserrate got into an argument with girlfriend Karla Giraldo, 30, early Friday at his Queens house, according to a criminal complaint. Giraldo said Monserrate broke a glass in his hand and cut her face with it, causing her to need 20 stitches around her left eye.

former police officer, 12 years
Did she put some ice on it?
Then he'll get off. Everyone knows that police can do no wrong in NYC. (Even former police)
Calling the situation "a terribly unfortunate accident," the councilman said, "I have absolutely nothing to hide, and all facts will become known at the appropriate time."
During 12 years with the New York Police Department, "I worked to put men who abused women in jail," he added.
Monserrate was elected to the state Senate last month and is to be sworn in Jan. 1.
Democrats: Not impeached...promoted!
Read earlier that the argument started over something he found in her purse. Sounds like a real abuser.
“I did it but I didn’t do it, so why am I being charged. The ole democratic line.
Oh, hell. That’s a typical Saturday night around here!
Excuse me...I hear glass breaking. I think my Husband wants to talk to me about something he found in my purse...
Which begs the question...how many stitches has Bill Clinton needed over the years? I mean, you can’t take an hit upside the head with a lamp or a heavy glass ashtray without SOME ‘collateral damage.’ *SMIRK*
Wow! They identified him! Could BlagObamaGate be having an effect?

Accident or intentional? Something smells...
He couldnt even keep his nose clean before he was sworn in?
He’s already fighting with Bloomberg about giving the P.D. a raise and imposing a tax to pay for it.

BTW, anyone checking out his home page be warned - I was immediately spammed with one of those "do you want to download free virus protection?" pop-ups.
Ah yes, and Eliot Spitzer worked to get prositution crimes punished.
Nothing less than a march on washington to retake our house will stop the insanity. We will just continue to read story after story and feel better that it isn’t pubbies.
I await our Paul Revere II, “the politicians are coming, the politicians are coming!
Thanks for posting the pic - I was wondering what this asshat looked like.
This has been over the MSM all day because he is a Dem.
Of course if he had been a Repub it would have not been reported..
Sarcasm off/
What a sick SOB.

I used to live in this man’s district and I have to tell you that the only reason he got elected to the state senate is because I believe he ran unopposed. The only reason he was elected in the 1st place is because he had his Dominican people “bully up” everyone in Corona. When he ran for city council, it was a freakin joke. He & his “people” were all over Corona, “influencing” the latinos who usually didn’t like to vote. I am sure this scandal is only the tip of the iceberg. Corona is full of Hiram stories. I am glad that he finally got caught for something. He is a bully and he walks around Corona like Johnny Za-Za in Godfather 2. BTW, I am a latino, but what’s right, is right and this man has never been right. (Comment in the New York Post)
The New York Daily News mentioned that this councilman was a former marine, a former police officer, but nary a mention that his douche is a DEMOCRAT until the middle of the story. If he were a Republican it would have been in big, bold headlines.
There is a case involving a Republican NYC councilman (one of only three of 50) that was resolved earlier this year. Dennis Gallagher was charged in connection with picking up a woman in a bar and inviting her into his office during a non-work day. Suffices to say that this was one of those "he said, she said" cases fueled undoubtedly by alcohol consumption. But there were no physical injuries.
The upshot of it was that Gallagher had to resign his City Council seat as part of a plea agreement. Will this 'Rat have to resign his new state Senate seat? I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for it to happen.
