Pit Bulls Kill Rubidoux Man
The attack was reported at 12:10 p.m., according to sheriff's Sgt. Dennis Gutierrez.
"It appears at this time it is a very tragic accident," Gutierrez said. "Of course this family is very distraught, right before the holidays."

Just think if the moron family had two Labradors in the back yard - they would still have a grandpa.
Anyone who owns or defends dogs who kill people has a screw loose.
No no no. It is the fault of the tobacco companies,
How about a top ten of dogs that don’t just bite but are more likely to kill a child or adult. I bet Pit Bulls would be the leader.
This is because NYC probably has no pit bulls. Provide any examples of any of these breeds killing people. Cases of pit bulls killing a person or baby are usually about 1 every two weeks.
Owning a pit bull should carry the same responsibilities as owning any other dangerous weapon; even a baseball bat.
Let the juries decide each case.
As for me, I see no reason to own one of those genetic mutations; I’ll take a German Shepherd any day over a PB.
Not just any tobacco company, but BIG tobacco. The Pit Bulls are victims of those fiends...
Pitbulls aren't merely symbolic of TROP, they are the OJ's of the canine world.
All dogs are vicious if trained to be...
Bad dogs blame it on the ownners, bad kids blame it on the parents...
I have 2 Huskies 4 cats and a 2 month old i was told by everybody no huskies and cats can live together, well i had a little chat with the huskies and we all have been living together happily for the last 7 years...
Training and rules thats what it is all about.....
I knew it, with a little research you will see that between 1982 and 2006, Pit Bulls were responsible for more death and injury than any other breed.

Breed
Attacks Doing Bodily Harm: 1,110
Child Attacks: 495
Adult Attack: 397

Maimings: 608
‘Of the breeds most often involved in incidents of sufficient severity to be listed, pit bull terriers are noteworthy for attacking adults almost as frequently as children.’

of that list, which is most capable of killing a human being?

Merritt Clifton, editor of Animal People, has conducted an unusually detailed study of dog bites from 1982 to the present. (Clifton, Dog attack deaths and maimings, U.S. & Canada, September 1982 to November 13, 2006; click here to read it.) The Clifton study show the number of serious canine-inflicted injuries by breed. The author's observations about the breeds and generally how to deal with the dangerous dog problem are enlightening.
According to the Clifton study, pit bulls, Rottweilers, Presa Canarios and their mixes are responsible for 74% of attacks that were included in the study, 68% of the attacks upon children, 82% of the attacks upon adults, 65% of the deaths, and 68% of the maimings. In more than two-thirds of the cases included in the study, the life-threatening or fatal attack was apparently the first known dangerous behavior by the animal in question. Clifton states:
If almost any other dog has a bad moment, someone may get bitten, but will not be maimed for life or killed, and the actuarial risk is accordingly reasonable. If a pit bull terrier or a Rottweiler has a bad moment, often someone is maimed or killed--and that has now created off-the-chart actuarial risk, for which the dogs as well as their victims are paying the price.
Clifton's opinions are as interesting as his statistics. For example, he says, "Pit bulls and Rottweilers are accordingly dogs who not only must be handled with special precautions, but also must be regulated with special requirements appropriate to the risk they may pose to the public and other animals, if they are to be kept at all."

About a 1/4 of the way down is canine homicides, yes pitbulls are mentioned but so are roths ,boxers and mutts..
Which never seem to make it to the news.....
Unprovoked? The man was in a "no smoking" zone. The dogs were obviously enforcing the property owner's code!
BTW, pitbulls don't kill people. People who fail to train and socialize pitbulls properly kill people!
Very interesting PDF Read. They repetively state that the Rottie and Pittie should be regulated and make a pretty convincing argument.
How old is that study? From the fifties? V’s wife.
Dogs are essentially domesticated wild animals that once belonged to the species of wolves in the wild. They can never be completely trusted can only be mastered and controlled. No breed is useless, however some idiots who own them forget they are not monkeys and in the wild are programed by natrure to kill and main and eat any other species they can bring down. The only reason to own a dog is to protect your life and property.
As an owner of west German bred German Shepherd's, I can tell you the aggressive protection aspect has largely been bred out of the show version of this breed, same as the US German Shepherds. Maybe a few west German working dogs are aggresive; Czech border patrol dogs are much more aggressive!
Why? They were bred to be that way. Then what you do is lay training on top of the breeding. Not the other way around.
Pits are bred to be vicious and aggressive; some by training won't be, and probably many don't get to that level of aggression: again, as a result of genetics. That is the breeding for agression failed because of the mixes: labs, beagle, whatever. But those that do achieve in genetics total aggression, well you are going to have a hard time training against that propensity. That's just dog breeding 101. V's wife.
I have been told, repeatedly, that attacks like this are rare.
