Dubya Opens Up (GWB: "That's just the way it goes! ")

President George W. Bush is leaving with one of the lowest approval ratings in the history of numbers. During his final months on the job, the controversial commander-in-chief has given several interviews that have revealed how he views his legacy. Here are some highlights...

Soul not for sale One of the president's most interesting sound bites came during his interview with FOX News. He said: "I didn't compromise my soul to be a popular guy." The quote is an acknowledgment that the president is well aware that he's about as popular as taxes and chicken pox. Bush went on to say that he would have liked to have been more popular, but he's proud that he didn't sacrifice his integrity. And that includes Detroit's bailout

What Bush regrets During a rather candid interview several weeks ago, folks heard something truly surprising from the president—an admission that he was wrong. Bush said that his "biggest regret" was that he and his team got the intelligence wrong in Iraq.

What he'll be thinking on his last day Anyone who has ever changed jobs knows that the mix of emotions can be quite strong. It's no different for presidents. Chief among Bush's thoughts before entering what he jokingly referred to as "forced retirement" will be well wishes for President-elect Barack Obama. Said Mr. Bush: "I'll be wishing President-elect Obama all the best, genuinely be wishing him all the best."

RE :”are so dumbed-down and greedy that they voted for Obammie the Commie in the first place”

There are many that voted for him but the middle voted against Bush and McCain. And you know what? Given 8 years of GWB and 5-6 years of his own congress both branches, we really had nothing positive to brag about. That’s why McCain ended campaign with Ayers. Republicans stood for nothing, except WOT, and GWB’s announced (and owned) great depression and government takeover of private property took that off the table. The surge was successful, but way too late to help republicans.

Let’s face it. All rules of freedom in economics and capitalism and private property ended with financial bailout. It was the day capitalism ended.

I just heard a liberal on CSPAN (Sunday morning 12/21/2008) say that we need socialism and if Obama tried to start it like republicans did this year, he might have been impeached. But now he is free to save country with second new deal that distributes limited resources(ironic in too many ways), because in my words(what the lib meant), ‘GWB broke all the conservative capitalistic rules already’.

I heard another liberal on PBS 12/21/2008 that said if Republicans are going to bailout investors AND corporations like GM, why not help the little guy? Get it now???

MY WARNING
“Why Republicans supporting democrat’s investor bailout bill is political suicide”

I warned about this for two years. Congress was considered GWB’s congress the past two years,I warned these were anti-GWB/anti-republican polls disaster for our party that was Pelosi’s plan and most freepers thought than meant we were winning the issues. . Heck, Hannity was talking about a massive R win day before election, both years 2006+2008.

[kept the US safe] Arguably, but at what cost? $2 trillion between the war in Iraq, domestic security, and a sizable loss of freedom and privacy?

"God forbid defense and research costs something. And, do you know the nature of the freedom and privacy you lost?"

Ever been to an airport since 9/11? Do you support the TSA's intrusion into everyone's records and privacy? Was the $ Trillion War in Iraq necessary to preserve our "security"? (while the Illegal Invasion of America continues unabated?) Why are 40,000 Saudi Student Visas being dispersed by the Bush Administration when 15 of 19 9/11 Terrorist Hijackers were...SAUDI?

How can we possibly have waged a "War on Terror" when the President REFUSED to clamp down on our borders since 9/11? This is "SECURITY"?? The ongoing WoT policy has not only been inconsistent, but has made little sense. As to cost, should we continue to give the Gubmint a black check for "security" that can't be quantified? It is only by the grace of God or luck we haven't experienced a huge terrorist attack by now - Islamofascist cells are indeed alive and well in America...

Maybe Pro-life, SCOTUS, and tax cuts aren’t important to your brand of ‘conservatism’. The GOP destroyed itself, and not by one man, but by at least a gang if not both houses."

Dubya Bush gets ONE single point for his pro-life position, but never really did much to advance the conservative agenda. Of course you will point out the SC appointments of the pro-life Roberts and Alito, but we got Alito ONLY because his pick -the RINO Miers - was rejected. Roberts and Alito we THE two "accomplishments" of the Bush Presidency.

As to "Tax Cuts," how do tax cuts really matter when we're spending $1 trillion dollars on a war that needs to be paid for, Bush's advocacy in 2002 of $440 billion for the failed CRA mortgages? OR the latest $700 billion+ tab in "bail Outs??

I will concede the following point; The GOP was not as you point out "destroyed by a single man"; It was destroyed by a cadre of Globalist-Elitists who are stacking the deck on behalf of New World Order.

"Your arguments are not on balance with the surroundings in which Bush had to operate. There are certainly a number of policy failures, but your generalizations are pinging the BDS meter."

With all due respect, Bush's parameters were created for him; I can't possible have BDS because I realize he was merely a hood ornament and puppet of his NWO Overlords. He merely did as he was told....and much to the chagrin of liberals everywhere, so will 0bama.

"I guess Harriet Myers (Bush's pick for SCOTUS), Teddy Kennedy (No Drunken Senator Left Behind), and those big "Welcome, Illegals!" signs (Fast-Track Amnesty pushed hard by your man Dubya), Campaign Finance Reform (SCOTUS isn't gonna declare this Constitutional, so I'll sign it for my buddies on the Left), Senate's Nuclear Option Nuked (Gang of 14 "Bi-partisan" friends of Bush), Bailout By The Billions (another big "Welcome!" sign, only this time it's for his Skull and Bones cohorts from Wall Street and CFR) --and MUCH more--are part and parcel of your brand of 'conservatism'?"

What say you, Gene and Kristinn? Aren't the above issues problematic for ANY "conservative"?

"The United States of America unrecognizable from what it was even 8 years ago when he took office. Who would have thought we would have a president who is so spineless that he calls Islam a "Religion of Peace"? (Bring out the "Welcome, Y'all!" signs again.) Who would have thought a once "Grand Old Party" would become what it is now, The BOHICA Party? The list is endless."

Not many can disagree with your observations and assessments, arasina. SPOT ON. The enigmatic policies of President George W. Bush's administration have changed the Republic of the United States of America forever. God help us.

Dubya may not be batting "zero," but his policies have undoubtedly helped usher in a Marxist 0bama aka 'ZER0.'

And frankly, there was really nothing Bush could have done to try to win the election for us. He did the right thing by sitting on the sidelines.

Actually, there were several things he could have done that would have helped a great deal:

1.) Name a new VP in early 2006--a good talented young conservative even if relatively unknnown. There are lots of them out there. This person could have been the heir-apparent in 2008 instead of the RINO also-rans we ended up with.

2.) Drop the illegal amnesty nonsense with extreme prejudice.

3.) Veto a few spending bills.

4.) Crack down on ACORN and their activities much harder and much earlier.

5.) Appoint a better Sec. of State than Condi Rice.

6.) Endorse the House Republicans' version of the Wall Street bailout instead of the one pushed by Paulson.

He failed on all of the above. The result? President Obama.

"Let's start with this one: fake, trumped-up intel??

No Kristinn - let's start with this excerpt from the original thread article:

Bush said that his "biggest regret" was that he and his team got the intelligence wrong in Iraq. THIS is the overriding problem that is most disturbing.

What exactly did Dubya mean? Was the WMD intel misunderstood? Erroneous from the start? Or merely doctored and fluffed? Where ultimately does the buck stop?

As to assuming Saddam was fully willing and prepared to use WMD, so then too are other rogue states like N. Korea and Iran, yet we didn't invade those countries. FACT: NO threat was imminent.

Yes, Saddam was indeed repeatedly in violation of the 1991 ceasefire and refused to cooperate in a timely fashion, but did such violation justify invading Iraq? And so why again did we invade Iraq instead of merely bloodying its nose? Was the reason for an invasion the "WMD" or Iraq's violation of the 1991 Ceasefire? The administration seemed to have been caught hedging their bets. And how long did the mission take to turn into 'Nation Building'? Funny how while Bush himself campaigned, he claimed we were NOT in the business of 'Nation Building'...

"Your statement that the intel was faked and trumped up by the Bush administration is a favorite lefty lie."

My assessment is NOT a "lefty lie"; Dubya admitted getting the wrong intel. Connecting the dots leads any pursuer of truth and common sense to conclude that the intel was indeed theatrically massaged and subverted to usurp the American peoples' (and world) confidence and support for the invasion. You are entitled to believe otherwise.

"You're lying when you say we've lost freedoms under President Bush. What freedom have we lost? I'm not aware of any. But I've seen the Bush administration support the Second Amendment like no presidency has in decades...We give up more of our privacy to everyone in the course of our daily actions and transactions than what the government picks up in national security surveillance."

The Bush Administration has admittedly been a strong proponent of the Second Amendment. Thank God. However, intrusive TSA and Homeland Security (aka "secret") measures have infringed on the privacy of millions of low-risk Americans, while the inconvenience of so-called "security protocols" (as at airports) has clearly been nothing but window dressing. Do you support internet monitoring by the government? Oh...And I don't know where you live, but there are now "security" surveillance cameras located on many roads in my town and state. Do you feel these are necessary, or should the state be allowed to stick camera on every street corner as well?

"The economy: President Bush inherited a recession followed hard by 9/11. His administration prosecuted corrupt CEOs who got away with their corruption under Clinton. He turned the economy around and it stayed strong until this fall."

Too bad the Bush Administration retained so many Clinton US attorney holdovers or else maybe Bubba himself might have been snagged. Of course who was to know that he'd be appointed 'Ambassador' along with Poppy Bush.

Look - THIS is the bottomline for 'President George Bush's economy' circa 2008:

1) $1+ Trillion wasted for an unnecessary Iraq War (and "Nation Building")

2) Bush's advocacy of $440 Billion wasted thru CRA for making homeowners out of deadbeats.

3) Minimum $700+ billion for the Wall St. Bail Out

4) Importation of foreign and illegal labor which has helped facilitate state and federal debt

5) The subsidizing of 20 millions illegal Invading Mexican/South American foreigners foreigners have overloaded of health care facilities and American taxpayers.

So now what is the true cost or rather detriment to the U.S. economy because of Dubya Bush's administrative malfeasance?

"He [Bush] pushed for energy independence but got backstabbed by the likes of John McCain. He tried to reform Fannie and Freddie and Social Security but got stymied by elements in his own party. He resisted a minimum wage increase until the 'Rats forced it on him to fund the war effort. He cut taxes and did not raise them once."

Bush didn't push very hard did he if McCorpse was able to nudge him out of the way. As far as Fannie Mae and Freddy Mac, again, Dubya did not succeed in making a strong enough case, nor was he able to lead or inspire those in his own party (nevermind he NEVER learned to use the veto pen regarding across-the-board spending.)

"I don't mind people criticizing President Bush. I mind the lying and smearing. He's a good man and doesn't deserve it."

You see things through your own rose-colored glasses, Kristinn. Or maybe rather it's an ideologiocal kaleidescope. I admire your loyalty to the man and his Administration, but the Presidency of George W. Bush was marked by globalist-RINO inspired Party-before-Principle politics and policies. He and his faction of the GOP have left the Party a cadaver, and the country in shambles. At least in 1980 we had Reagan to fall back onto; This time the mess is left to a Far-Left Marxist loon. THAT shall be Dubya's "legacy."

May God help us.

>> Was the $ Trillion War in Iraq necessary to preserve our “security”? (while the Illegal Invasion of America continues unabated?)

>> How can we possibly have waged a “War on Terror” when the President REFUSED to clamp down on our borders since 9/11?

Hell, I don’t know what the problem is with getting the border under control, but it has nothing to do with Iraq. If the border was properly managed, would Iraq still be a problem for you?

>> It is only by the grace of God or luck ...

It wasn’t luck - but sometimes it feels that way.

>> Dubya Bush gets ONE single point for his pro-life position, but never really did much to advance the conservative agenda. Of course you will point out the SC appointments of the pro-life Roberts and Alito, but we got Alito ONLY because his pick -the RINO Miers - was rejected. Roberts and Alito we THE two “accomplishments” of the Bush Presidency.

Pro-Life in the U.S. is not an easy position for a pol to take. He gets more than ONE point here.

The SCOTUS/Miers fiasco represents an important deficit in the GOP — it was the constituents that corrected Bush’s nominee, not the GOP. So, however handicapped, Bush was successful with two very important SCOTUS seats.

>> As to “Tax Cuts,” how do tax cuts really matter when we’re spending $1 trillion dollars on a war that needs to be paid for, Bush’s advocacy in 2002 of $440 billion for the failed CRA mortgages? OR the latest $700 billion+ tab in “bail Outs??

Why not throw in the entire federal budget? You mix Iraq with bailouts for what purpose? Only God knows what the cost/benefit of Iraq is. For the bailouts, weren’t the pubbies ‘trying’ to address it in the early term? They failed to correct the lending disaster, and ultimately we paid more. The bailouts are insane, and bad macroeconomic practices will continue. I’m not pleased with the bailouts either.

>> With all due respect, Bush’s parameters were created for him; I can’t possible have BDS because I realize he was merely a hood ornament and puppet of his NWO Overlords. He merely did as he was told....and much to the chagrin of liberals everywhere, so will 0bama.

I don’t think 9/11, Iraq, Katrina, and the Financial Meltdown were arranged events. Whatever the parameters, I think unexpected events cut the strings you envisioned.

I didn’t exactly say you had BDS.

The GOP needs new blood. I bet we can agree on that.
