Schools Unleash 'Eco-Kids' to Badger Their Parents
Pajamas Media ^ | December 19 | Frank Furedi

Educators sometimes give the impression that they are in the business of protecting their pupils from the negative influence of their parents. Schools are sometimes devoted to the project of correcting the “outdated values” that parents have taught their children. That’s bad enough! However, in recent times policymakers and educators have also embraced the idea that through influencing children they can reeducate parents. Instead of parents socializing their children they advocate a reversal in roles.

It is in the domain of environmental education that the project of socialization in reverse is most systematically pursued.

Environmental educators want children to "nag, pester, bug, and torment" their elders into a green lifestyle...

This is the simiilar type of “education” that was forced on children in Warsaw Pact countries. Turn in your parents for being enemies of the state.

Years ago, I flamed a teacher by saying that environmentalism is nothing more than communism with a friendly face. She was a Gaia worshipper teaching 6th grade (key level). Man, that’s been almost 20 years and she was doing this stuff then (”tell mommy and daddy that they shouldn’t hunt or fish, etc.”).

Parents should be teaching their kids at a VERY early age that their teachers can and often are very flawed and give examples. I made it through the gauntlet of leftist teachers in a stronger position to argue my point of view.

If my kids wander in telling me what I’m supposed to do, I see a problem in chain of authority. If the teacher is not only opposite my views but telling my children to tell ME to change, I will change their teacher. Or change the school.

I am so tired of shockingly moronic little kids spewing the absolute garbage they are being programed with at school. We were in a sporting goods store in the hunting section and a group of 4 junior high school boys looked at the recent photos of deer bagged here and one exclaimed “oh that is so sick!” My husband asked him if he knew where his burger meat came from - you know there is no getting away from a slaughter house for a cow. We smiled and walked away. Don’t get me started on the global warming children of the corn....

My nieces and nephews were doing that to my sister and her husband. I told them to fight fire with fire. Shut off the TV, computer, video games, anything that had to be charged, i.e iPods, cell phones etc., no running around in the car, no dishwasher etc. When the kids had to start living like 1960 to save the earth they lost interest in GW and the environment real fast. It taught them that actions have consequences. I would suggest the same technique to others.

Yep. That’s the way to do it. The only problem is that a lot of parents would have a hard time turning the TV off themselves. In our house, the computer and TV are a privelege to be earned, not a right to be demanded. My 6yr old is lucky to get an hour a week of TV, and he can only use the computer if my wife or I log him on.

When our Youngest {now 30} was in Elementary School, His teacher expected Him to “rat on us” IF we didn't use “NEW MATH” in our home.

Over 15 years my youngest started this crap. One month of no meat at home with reduced heat and limited going to different places; wacko green lost it's appeal.

“through influencing children they can reeducate parents”

Hey! They learned that from Madison Avenue and the junk-cereal pushers on Saturday mornings.

It amazes me that parents send their kids to schools which have absolutely no respect for them or their kids.

Didn’t you get it the first time, “RESPECT” anymore is a matter of opinion.
