Not real suprised at this story. Many unions have “work” rules which permit this.

Back when I was a youth (in the 70s)- I worked for a guy who owned trucks, and he used to haul out of the now defunct Nabisco factory in Pittsburgh.

According to the rules, the trucking firm had to help unload the truck- and the bakery union rules permitted their members to do more than 1 trailer every 4 hours. It took only 60-90 minutes and the workers headed out to the bar or other activities to kill the time.

is this even news? It would be news if you found UAW members actually working.

No it's not news. This has been going on for years. My wife's father worked at a union plant on second shift. He never did it himself, but it was routine for workers to go to the bar and hang out for hours drinking. And get paid for it.

My guess is that the local media is getting desperate enough that they’re running less “hate Bush” stories and actually starting to do a little more real journalism.

Or the reporter is desperately trying to justify his continued employment.

The difference is that this time its on tape! You can use it against the union supporters, who will find it hard to refute.

“Who’s clocking out today?” Heard that one a lot. They rotate who stays in and clocks the others (at the bar) out, kind of like a designated driver. Been going on for decades.

And they wonder why their cars are Sh!t and no one wants to buy them. This whole time I thought it was just the Friday syndrome.

Is Ford Corporate Security aware of this?

Not like it would matter. The unions make it almost impossible to fire these people.

I was an autoworker for GM in SoCal years ago. We would drink before work, during lunch and for hours after work. All in the parking lot.

And we wonder why the foreign cars are better. Not to mention the union, the company and the customers are subsidizing behavior that increases health problems and costs - which are then passed on to the customer...and now the taxpayer..

Beautiful! The news clip starts with a commercial for a local Lincoln dealer.

“Have you driven a Ford *hiccup* lately!”

Not to condone the activity, but Ford was the only of the big three that did not accept bail-out money.

Sounds like a government job. I used to know a guy who worked for the city of Milwaukee, in the health department. He had to drive around the city doing inspections. It didn’t take all day. He usually had several hours free. His boss knew this, but wanted to keep it that way. He probably had a lot of free time, too. They would drive city cars around and shop or go to movies.
