Riot police from Stockholm and Gothenburg are being sent to provide back-up for their colleagues in Malmö as tensions in the southern city continue to flare.
After two nights of intensive rioting, police in the city requested assistance from units specially trained to deal with mass violent demonstrations.
"We don't think it's over yet. We think it's going to continue and we have to be prepared to work around the clock," said regional police spokesman Charley Nilsson.
Emotions have been running high in Malmö's predominantly immigrant Rosengård district since police forcibly removed three squatters from the basement offices of an Islamic cultural centre. The premises had been occupied since November 24th as part of a protest against the landlord’s decision not to renew the association’s lease for the space, which it had held for the past fifteen years.
Thursday night saw the most extreme rioting in Rosengård since the disturbances began. Police were pelted with Molotov cocktails and bomb threats were issued against a local petrol station.
Police spokeswoman Ewa-Gun Westford said she would not even hazard a guess as to how many police vehicles were damaged in the rioting, as locals were reportedly joined by left-wing extremists, or "autonomists", from outside the area.
The city's fire and rescue services have been refusing to enter the area until their safety can be guaranteed.
One person was arrested for rioting, while another was detained for disturbing the peace.
By 3am on Friday the situation had stabilized somewhat and police were able to move in and remove burning trailers and other objects from the streets with the aid of a bulldozer.

I have been following the current debate on one of swedens biggest political internet forums, hundreds of hundreds of users is writing about the rioting gangs as “animals”, “lesser humans”. Most of the users are suggesting that the people, “the new swedes”, should be deported or even killed point blank. At the same time I know that the rioters do not respect liberties and rights. They are destroying other peoples property and are threatening other peoples freedom.
I can feel the attitude in my society, people are talking on the working places about “the scum”, and people from different ethnical groups does not respect each other. People have more and more stopped treating each other as individuals and does not show each other respect. I have felt it some years now on different working places. People are feeling unfree, treating each other as lesser humans, but they do not know when they are doing wrong to somebody. Many swedes have no feelings left for each other - they even bully their friends kids, in their friends home! People do not enjoy being with each other
My country is going into the dump .My government know this. Our prime minister held an annual christmas speech two days ago. I saw in his eyes, in his posture that he knows no solution to our small societys problem. He knew something he did not want to say.

This was a fact prior to the rioting. Large areas of Malmo are now simply off-limits to the Swedish government, unless they move in with military-type force. Otherwise, they are repelled. Why? Simple, the Muslim population is now large enough in those areas to set the rules.
God help Europe.

Does anyone know if the Jewish cemetary, right across from Rosengård is safe? It’s been attacked before and I hate to think anyhting happened to my grandparent’s graves.

- I don’t live in Malmö, but from what I can see, the Jewish cemetary is not located in the immidiate vicinity of Rosengård ( - according to eniro.se, a site which features maps of all of Sweden among other things. The address of the cemetary is Föreningsgatan/Union Street which is pretty far away from Rosengård from an inner Malmö perspective).
Severe attacks against Jewish cemetaries are pretty rare in Sweden, even if they sometimes do occur. I’m no expert of these things, but it was a long time ago since I heard of any major attack against such a place.
I think most Jewish cemetaries and Jewish places of worship in Sweden are rather well protected through various measures like surveillance cameras and security guards.
Insofar as my country has failed to protect ground sacred to you and other people of Jewish origin here in Sweden, I sincerely wish to apologize.
Many Scandinavian Jews, as well as Jews that live or have lived outside of my part of the world have contributed immensely to the development of Sweden and her neighbor countries.
Let’s hope for the best. In any case, the rage of these displayed by Muslims and other groups like AFA (Anarchists) that have joined them during these riots is not antisemitic in nature.

In terms of economical growth and political sanity, the temperature is close to the freezing point over here (although our present Conservative-dominated government has lowered taxes, weakend the unions while maintaining quite a lot of support from the public).
From a meteorological point of view however, I wouldn’t mind more of REAL winter.
Most of us Swedes will not enjoy a white Christmas this year, which is disappointing as traditional Scandinavian winters are exceptionally beautiful.
But, at least there will be glögg (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mulled_wine#Gl.C3.B6gg)!
There are some countries I just can’t picture unrest in.
I don't blame Sweden. I certainly don't blame Sweden for welcoming immigrants, as they did my mother's family. Sadly sometime around 1980 they stopped assimilating immigrants, while inviting many more refugees and immigrants. Sadly, they were none too discriminating on who they let in.
It’s sad to watch what Sweden is doing to itself.
I’m tempted to say that I’m glad my grandparents emigrated to America, but then I realize that the American government and media passionately subscribe to the same postmodern, nanny state, multi-culti insanity. They’re just more dishonest about it, that’s all.
