Labor unions, environmentalists and liberal advocacy groups are getting behind president-elect Barack Obama's economic stimulus plans geared toward public works.

The Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, Sierra Club, League of Conservation Voters, and the Economic Policy Institute Campaign for America's Future and People for the American Way Foundation, both backed by financier George Soros, are among groups launching a major lobbying push in favor of Obama's stimulus spending programs. Soros has been a harsh critic of the Bush administration.

The AFL-CIO, Service Employees International Union, National Education Association and AFSCME government workers union are the main labor drivers behind Obama's New Deal efforts.

Obama proposes allocation of federal funds for transportation and public works construction to spur activity and jobs in a sector hit by the housing slide. A number of big city mayors and governors, including Phoenix Mayor Phil Gordon, back the FDR-style plans.

Stimulus plan could shape course of Barack Obama’s presidency

http://www.latimes.com/news/politics/la-na-obama-stimulus18-2008dec18,0,1385571.story

“Though no stimulus bill has yet been drafted, Republicans are wary of some of the proposals put forward by groups that are talking to Obama’s transition team. They cite a report by the U.S. Conference of Mayors listing myriad projects cast as vehicles to create jobs and boost the economy. Those include a dog park in Hercules, Calif.; a bike path in San Diego; and a $1.5-million push to curb prostitution in Dayton, Ohio.

“My fear is it will be a tool for all kinds of pet spending projects, for wasteful pork barrel projects and redistribution of wealth,” said Pat Toomey, president of Club for Growth, which promotes fiscal conservatism.

Toomey said the group may run ads opposing the stimulus package.

Grover Norquist, a Washington anti-tax activist who has been at the hub of conservative policymaking in the Bush years, said the package should be posted on the Internet for a minimum of 10 days so that Americans have a chance to inspect it and look for dubious projects.”

Pay to play, watch who gets those contracts, he owes a lot of people who need to get paid back while he totally crushes our economy. He has to do that to accomplish his goal. Will he ? Who knows, time will tell.

This is a leftist, corrupt Chicago politician's dream. The Democrats will have a trillion dollars to throw around and zero accountability. Most of the money will disappear through kickbacks and outright theft. And the taxpayers will end up with a debt that will be almost impossible to pay back.

Birth, growth, decay, death.

Many segments of our economy appear to be near the end of the decay part of the cycle, some even at death’s bed.

Those pushing so hard to rush through the various stimulus packages, bailouts, whatever, are trying to stave off death. Maybe.

Death is inevitable. It is part of the cycle. The good news is that IT IS A CYCLE.

What follows death? Birth.

The auto worker who gets laid off (or any other worker for that matter) does not simply cease to exist. They adapt to whatever opportunity takes the place of the one that failed. It’s the old ‘life goes on.’ History is full of examples.

There are people who know this, and even make fortunes off of the cycle. Warren B. comes to mind.

In my opinion, the various stimulus packages, bailouts, etc. are just the crooks ripping us off while they are still capable of it.

Anyone had enough yet?

This is correct. I couldn’t have stated this any better. MOST OF ALL, is a SOCIALIST’s DREAM.

Speding does not stimulate the economy. It is savings and investment that drives economic growth. Spending gives the illusion of growth.

Is it too late to recall Barry? What have we done? Is it time for another tea party, this time in Washington DC? We have been betrayed by our politicians. They are self-serving theives and contrary to what some say, they are mostly incompetant.

In most of the countries I’ve been to, the people who can afford the least, have the most kids. More kids = more security. In many countries, kids take the place of scams we have here like Social Security.
