A 105-year-old singer whose past as a singer in Nazi Germany has dogged his reputation for decades is back in the spotlight after telling a Dutch television show Adolf Hitler was a "good guy."
The Dutch-born Johan Heesters, who now has Austrian citizenship and is still popular and performing in Germany, was asked by a Dutch journalist what he thought of Hitler.
"A good guy, that's what he was," he said on the clip shown Thursday on the current affairs show "De Wereld Draait Door" ("The World Keeps Turning").
His wife, Simone Rethel, immediately corrected him, saying that Hitler was the worst criminal in the world.
"I know, doll," Heesters responded. "But he was nice to me."

Natalie Maines can sympathize with this fool.
Reminds me of the story of the crazed mental patient who escaped from the asylum. An alert was sent out over the radio and a panicked driver heard the broadcast. Suddenly his tire goes flat. He puts the nuts into the hub cab and gets to work putting the spare on the car.
Suddenly the mental patient appears in the headlights of the man's car! He is suprised and knocks the hubcab into the ditch, spilling the nuts. Frantically he searches for them but to no avail as the man comes closer.
The driver doesn't let on that he heard the broadcast so he is up front with the escapee when he asks "What's wrong?". He tells the man that he lost all of the nuts for the tire.
The escapee then says "take one nut from each of the other wheels and alternate them without a nut. I'm crazy, not dumb."
There are photos of the gulags in Russia that are ignored. One of FDR’s VPs even saw them firsthand and said nothing.
Yet another parallel with Hitler - “Time Man of the Year”
And Osama Bin Laden built hospitals, Senator Patty Murray even said so.
If anyone had gone into the concentration camps at the end of the war, after having had to fight the die-hard SS who had rather fight to the death than to allow the camp to be liberated - and so they died for their loyalty to the “Faderland” and the “Fuehrer” - this person who experienced this, and then saw the corpses of innocent people, Jews and others, piled up like cordwood several feet deep and half a mile in length - this person is better able to speak to the “niceness” of Hitler. - My Daddy went through this.
True.
Even more horrific are the films, that are rarely ever seen, that Eisenhower had made (I think they were shot by a famous Hollywood director, Cant remember the name).
They had the power to really upset you. Maybe why they are not shown, they are truly disturbing.
Like Stalin, Pol Pot and Mao perhaps.
Wifey appears to be a bit short of 105.
A 105-year-old singeryeah, okay.
Man, if I were that old with a bird like that on my arm, I’d sing too!
