US President George W. Bush said in an interview Tuesday he was forced to sacrifice free market principles to save the economy from "collapse."

"I've abandoned free-market principles to save the free-market system," Bush told CNN television, saying he had made the decision "to make sure the economy doesn't collapse."

I’ll let Bush and Cheney make the case.

WRT the economy, this administration should have zero credibility with any right-minded person. They've been a disgrace from the start.

This coming meltdown will make the great depression seem to have been boom times. We also have no industrial giants that are honest any longer... Industry and Investment companies are infected with greed and thieves... the only way we survive is if they and their institutions die... but we will keep them on life support so that they can continue to rape society. Sorry, but that is exactly how I see things.

Well..., I meant at least to where we were a couple or so years ago, before we started getting into trouble, anyway...

It may not be perfect (back then) the way many may have wanted it, but it’s where we were.

Did you see Bush dodge the shoes? I’ve been practicing that move...

"I've abandoned free-market principles to save the free-market system,"

I remember trying to convince a prom date to abandon her principles to save her chastity. She didn't buy it.

I'm not either.

A better analogy would be one where a patient is on life support and needs a new heart, so the doctors go out and kill healthy people until they find a matching donor. You don't abandon principles for short term gain; it only makes things worse in the long run. And I'm not at all convinced government interference will even bring us any short term gain.

Just curious, did you vote for John McCain?

Oh well..., sorry to hear that, but I also think the world is “going to hell in a handbasket” — but on other grounds. I believe that Jesus Christ is soon to come for the church and then the 7 years Tribulation begins and then the King (”Jesus”) returns to set up the “worldwide rule” over all the nations from His Kingdom in Israel.

So..., I don’t really know if we have enough time to recover from a Great Depression after all...

How considerate of him to spare Obama the political consequences.

I cannot believe this guy. How many more times between now and 1/20/09 can he bare his throat for the democrats?

Exactly, it is reprehensible to prop up these failed institutions. At a time like this, those who have remained honest, and retained competent management, should have bought out those failed institutions. The Government is insistent that these fools be given tax dollars (more likely, freshly printed funny money) to keep playing. That is no formula for economic success.

A Great Depression is exactly what this country and the world needs.

All praise to the Democrats for delivering it, then. I used to think, naively, that voting Republican would prevent this. Now, I'll be put out of my misery. It's all over. {:-(

I see that she was more pure in her principles than you were... LOL...

On the other hand, she probably knew who would end up with an extra mouth to feed... (enlightened self-interest, perhaps.. :-) ... )

"I've abandoned free-market principles to save the free-market system,"

Of course, that is after he and congress abandoned free-market principles to bring the economy to its knees.

You said — “It was. We lost.”

Actually we lost because we didn’t keep up “Rolling Thunder” until the North cried uncle. They said that they were just days away from surrendering... We missed their surrender by just days...

If he comes in the next five minutes or five years... I am ready and I will rejoice in him... for I love him more than I love myself. Worldly problems will no longer have meaning.

Amen Brother.
