I've always wondered how many people had the last name of Hitler in the US, circa 1935 or so. The immigrated (legally) from Germany, were minding their own business here in the US, and then all of a sudden the nutcase comes to power in Germany, and we are fighting a guy named Hitler. It would kinda stink to have that last name.

I suppose it could be like you have a middle name Hussein and there is some mideast dictator that comes to power.... oh wait.....

I've wondered about that as well. I'll bet in the 1930 census there were probably dozens if not hundreds of men named "Adolf Hitler" in this country and thousands with the surname "Hitler" yet today there are virtually none. Anyone ever met anybody with the last name Hitler? I haven't. Did they all change their names?

Harpo Marx's name at birth was Adolf. After Hitler came to power he went & changed it to Arthur.

If I recall correctly, there were some distant cousins of Hitler’s who immigrated to the US early in the 20th century. When Adolph came to power, they changed their names. I believe that they changed their names at least once after that, and I seem to recall that the last of them died out a few years ago.
