Arabs hail shoe attack as Bush's farewell gift by Salam Faraj Salam Faraj 14 mins ago

BAGHDAD (AFP) – Iraq faced mounting calls on Monday to release the journalist who hurled his shoes at George W. Bush, an action branded shameful by the government but hailed in the Arab world as an ideal parting gift to the unpopular US president.

Colleagues of Muntazer al-Zaidi, who works for independent Iraqi television station Al-Baghdadia, said he "detested America" and had been plotting such an attack for months against the man who ordered the war on his country.

"Throwing the shoes at Bush was the best goodbye kiss ever... it expresses how Iraqis and other Arabs hate Bush," wrote Musa Barhoumeh, editor of Jordan's independent Al-Gahd newspaper.

Hundreds of Iraqis joined anti-US demonstrations to protest at Bush's farewell visit on Sunday to Iraq, which was plunged into a deadly insurgency and near civil war in the aftermath of the 2003 invasion.

The Iraqi government branded Zaidi's actions as "shameful" and demanded an apology from his Cairo-based employer, which in turn called for his immediate release from custody.

What, and face being fed into the tree chipper? I'm sure one of Saddam's body doubles is still available. They've seen the guy operate, they know his evil. Put the double back up and tell the Iraqis, they want their Saddam back, they can have him. Well, maybe the next best thing, but whatever.

Maybe Bush’s farewell gift to them should be the corpse of the shoe-tosser wrapped in bacon.

Believe it or not it is a deadly insult in the Arab world. Showing the sole of your shoe or throwing a shoe at some one indicates utter contempt. Such as “you are dirt beneath my feet.” or something much worse. Its like using the “C” word to describe a woman. Over there it IS an insult.... a very bad one.

History will show what a waste of time, money and effort it was for America to give 2 cents for anyone in the middle east.

To the lefty retards, this guy loved Saddam Hussein, who was a mass murderer that murdered tens of thousands of innocent people, women and children included with shots to the head, cut off limbs of the innocent for pleasure, had rape rooms and employees of the state that carried I.D. badges identifying them as rapists and whose oldest son would pick young girls up from the street, take them to his home and rape and molest them for his pleasure and power gratification over them. So when you cheer on this idiot, you cheer on those activities.

As soon as we leave, Iraq will be back to what it was. Tribal warfare, Sunni-Shia warfare, Muslim-Christian warfare, thug-on-thug warfare, warlord on warlord warfare...........

lol..."plotting." How much plotting does it take to take off one's shoes and hurl them? And as far as it being the "best goodbye kiss ever" ....uh...memo to Muntazer: you missed.

Try this on any Arab Leader in any Arab country, TODAY, and you won't have a head to go with the shoes you threw. What an absolute ignoramus ... and what a backward bunch of ingrates. Bush should make a statement about how, while he laughed it off, Saddam would have ordered the reporter executed.

Right.

Propping up religious elements in the M.E. while tearing down secular ones will prove (has proven) to be disastrous.

He was probably one of the maggots who did the butchering. Found himself out of work when the US showed up.

Bush should come out with a statement:

Due to the shoe throwing incident, and as an indication of the lack of appreciation for the United States delivering Iraq from tyranny, rebuildign their infrastructure and providing a stable government and protection, I am ordering the immediate and mass withdrawal of all U.S. Military personnel and equipment, and urging all those countries participating the coalition to do the same.

Now, if you inappreciative bastards get invaded again...just throw a shoe at'em.

The more we are fed this drivel about what the “Arab World” thinks, the further our foreign policy will go off track. This same Arab World depends on us for survival and their leaders know it. The rest is pure show.
