White Rock Marathon events running on faith in aiding Scottish Rite

Fifteen-month-old Addison Bryan just got her first pair of shoes.

Because of her disability, she can't walk in them. Another year could pass before Addison takes her first steps.

But today at least 50 people will be walking for her, all supporting the hospital that has cared for her since birth.

Jeff and Julie Bryan of Rockwall organized the team that's participating in today's Mayor's Race, a 5K fun run accompanying the Dallas White Rock Marathon. Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children is the marathon's primary beneficiary.

funny, I read the article but didn’t spot where they explained just what the Scottish Rite IS.

Their speech and language clinics were literally a life-saver for my daughters.

Both of my daughters received free speech & language therapy for 1 1/2 years. I don’t think we could have afforded to pay for private therapy at the time, and our health insurance wouldn’t cover it.

The school district also started it’s lies about my daughter because they also provided free speech therapy.

Thank God, I listened to the therapist at the Scottish Rite center. They told me what was going on and what I should do. They put a name to my daughters problems (apraxia of speech).

We didn’t qualify for any other programs because my husband made too much money (for those programs). However, we didn’t have enough money to make our mortgage and pay for private therapy.

You only get 1 1/2 years of free therapy, but we continued on with our speech therapist. We finally had enough money to pay for therapy.

The White Rock race is getting out of control with its street closures. If they keep needing to expand the length of the closures, they need to move it over to the Trinity river bottoms.
