Republican Representative Mike Ritze has introduced a bill requiring candidates who file for office in Oklahoma to show proof of citizenship.
The idea came about from the controversy around whether President-elect Barack Obama meets the U.S. Constitutions citizenship requirements.
Ritze's bill requires all candidates, running for any office, to show a copy of a certified birth certificate as well as driver's license or other government-issued identification upon registering with the Election Board.
Currently, candidates must only sign an affidavit stating they are registered voters. Ritze doesn't think Obama's submitted birth certificate is authentic.
The U.S. Supreme Court wouldn't hear a challenge of Obama's electoral eligibility Monday, but more challenges are pending. The certificate Obama has shown reflects a birthdate and place of August 4th, 1961 in Honolulu, Hawaii.

If the bill passes, Obama will be prevented from being on Oklahoma ballots...but he doesn't need to be on OK ballots to win the presidency.
The GOP takes OK's electors in 2012 anyway.
Not in Oklahoma, they haven’t. The only serious obstacle to this Oklahoma bill would be the Democrat governor’s veto pen.
The U.S. Constitutions citizenship requirements make it clear that a candidate must prove eligibility.
It is self evident that if it's a requirement it should be verified by whoever is conducting the election.
Why is it that public servants swear to uphold the Constitution but won't unless their is a specific law that tells them how to do it.
This won't do a bit of good unless it further specifies that candidates for President must show a long-form certificate that unambiguously establishes that the candidate meets the Constitutional requirements for that office.
I need to send this to my state rep here in Mississippi, and TN freepers too!
Personally I think we have no one but ourselves to blame for the democrats running as far left as they have. When they are in power we don’t bother to put up a fight so they just go further left.
I don’t like having them in power but I’m still a constituent and I put the same demands on them as I do the republicans.
If that bill passes in Oklahoma passes, I, for one, will be getting a copy of it and pressing it with my state legislators. In fact, I will be doing that whether or not it passes in Oklahoma.
Won’t having to provide proof of where one was born disenfranchise those minorities who want to run for public office? NOT! I’m not one for more gov regulations but providing birth location and voter ID ought to be required in every elections and in every state.
Info on the Keyes case at 18.
Does anyone have a bill number or a web site showing the bill?
I am in China and have tried to open three sites for Re. Ritze, but they are blocked.
I can get the newspaper sites, but I don’t see any bill numbers there.
Thanks, stockpirate.
Ping.
Horowitz and Malkin aren’t going to like this — it’s just another distraction and it makes us look like sore losers, you know? This is a great move because it can’t be argued against logically and it makes O’s position of secrecy look even more ridiculous and unreasonable.
Bush has reached in our pockets big time with all of the bail outs.
What tax went up? I missed this.
Or is that "Godfathered"? Will a Mexican Consular card be sufficient evidence of place of birth in Atzlan?
There is a relationship between the President and the people that is significant in the art of a civilized democracy. Mr. Obama is treating us in a fashion more akin to a one party Third World state. He is breaking the fabric of civil society and does not seem to care about it.
Neat idea.
But he doesn’t need to bother being on the ballot in Oklahoma anyway he’s gonna lose it huge again.
***That was BUSH!
Cost me $10,000 more in 2006 and a similar amount in 2007 and 2008.***
That’s strange. How come the MSM wasn’t all over it? Would you be good enough to give us a citation to show us how it all happened?
Excellent, every state should have such a law.
