Please do not misunderstand. I absolutely did not suggest that people refrain from contributing to the Wasilla church. AFAIK they are godly, humble, and anti-abortion believers.

I was pointing out that any commercial building must carry insurance--the mortgage lender will mandate that, and in most cases even a church will be built via a construction loan and thus will have a mortgage. Usually the restoration makes the building as good or better than it was before. The contributions from other believers would probably be needed for upgrades that come naturally during a reconstruction, such as a new security system.

Our church has an unbelievable and frankly creepy security system. Sad to say, it has come in handy on a number of occasions. Putting it in was smart on the part of the pastor.

On the other hand, if for some reason the church in Wasilla did not have property insurance, they are idiots and will need help from the Body of Christ in basic reconstruction.

I’m not telling anyone to avoid donating, either. People can make up their own minds. Just my .02.
For all we know, Wasilla may have the worthiest congregation in America.
