From a practical point of view, if everything is above board, what's to hide?
From a political communications and PR point of view, the atypically clumsy silence and delay creates doubts among even some Democrats, an information vacuum that opponents seek to fill with items like this video below and that has turned what could have been a one- or two-day state scandal story into nearly a week-long saga now involving a new national leader who promised to change the way the people's business is done.
All of which also distracts from the message the Obama camp would prefer be focused on: the formation of a talented new Cabinet before Obama escapes Chicago's frigid South Side to Hawaii for the holidays. The scandal is now certain to be a major topic today on the Sunday morning political talk shows as listed here.
The Illinois legislature meets this week to begin preparations for impeachment of Blagojevich and a costly special statewide election to fill Obama's ex-seat. The Tribune story is here. (See video below.)

Come on - to the press, this is already “old news” and Obama has been declared “innocent of any knowledge or connection” to the entire saga. If this had been Bush, USA Today, NY Times, etc., would be keeping the front page burning with the story but as it is they have already moved on. Can’t mess with the Messiah - no story here.
Asking The Obamunist to release anything is like asking water to stop being wet. He has not released his birth certificate, his school records, his medical records, his passport, his selective service registration, his application to the Illinois bar association, ad nauseum.
Notice that outlets like CNN are doing segments with psychologists that say how crazy blago is.
Obama's pattern in the face of scandal has been to absolutely deny, delay, obfuscate, lie, weasel and all in all take the maximum damage to himself, before throwing the associate under the bus.
Look what he did in the Rev. Wright case. Obama said that he didn't think Rev. Wright was particularly controversial. He said Rev. Wright was his spiritual mentor and could abandon him to the same extent he could abandon the black community. In other words, not at all. Then Rev. Wright puts on his performance at the National Press Club and whoopsy shups, Rev. Wright is under da bus.
In the case of Hot Rod Blago, Obama denies that he or his staff ever spoke to the Governor or Governor's office about his own successor as Senator, when he had every legitimate reaso TO speak to the Governor about his successor and indeed he did. So, why make the absolute denial and ensure, that Obama himself will be shown up as a liar?
That's his pattern. Bill Ayers is just a guy from his neighborhood. That wasn't the Tony Rezko I knew. Father Pfleger was my spiritual mentor, but...
If it does help stop this agenda, should Rod Blagojevich receive a Freedom Medal in the future?
He won’t release them just like he won’t ever release his BC. And NOBODY can or will do anything about it. It baffles me! And he is not even in office yet!
Imagine the BLATANT display of corruption and lack of accountability his administration will get away with when he has control of FBI, CIA, IRS, Homeland Security, etc....

The way little Lisa Madigan has piously sought to portray herself as a corruption fighter for the people during this whole debacle makes me sick. Lisa Madigan is JUST as corrupt as Blago, she just hasn’t been caught with her hand in the cookie jar yet! She looked the other way for YEARS while Chicago machine corruption ran rampant, but NOW that Blago’s been caught with the smoking gun, she demands his ouster immediately, so we can go back to “business as usual” — due process be damned.
The Chicago machine wants Blago out of the way ASAP now that he’s damaged goods. The need to have Crook County corruption swept under the rug and that’s not possible as long as he’s the face of the IL RATs.
Lisa Madigan is trying to bypass the legal procedures for removing a governor and invoke an obscure clause used in emergencies to remove elected officials who suffer from illness. If we allow this to go forward and let the A.G. and four judges remove a Governor on a whim, it will set a dangerous precedent for future governors. Basically, five people (A.G. + 4 judges) in a closed door meeting would be able to remove whoever they wanted for whatever reason! Little Lisa says we can’t wait for impeachment. Of course this all could have been prevented if we VOTERS had the power of RECALL like 35 other states, but oh yeah, the Chicago machine fought tooth and nail AGAINST giving voters that power when it was brought up in the last election cycle, remember Lisa? Looks like you reap what you sow.
I urge everyone to call the A.G.’s office and the IL SC on Monday, and give them hell about this. You want to remove the Governor, do it thur the proper process!! Let’s have an open, public, impeachment trial and make the case that Blago is unfit to serve.

Well actually I agree with you and Obama is probably 99% sure that Fitz is indeed in the tank. It's that 1% that's keeping him awake nights. And there is no guarantee that Obama won't decide he has to throw good old Rahm and/or others into that crowded space underneath the bus. With Obama, there will always be enough room there for one or two more as the "situation on the ground" dictates.

Good grief. 52% of the American electorate have stuck us with the architect of America’s destruction.
Obama and his gang will keep their mouths shut until they find out what Fitzgerald has on tape.
When they know, then they can carefully craft their statements to limit, explain rationaize, triangulate, etc. But until they know what was said on tape, they don’t know how to do damage control.
The real risk to Obama is whether there are ongoing investigations. What if Rahm is on tape trying to make a deal and Fitzgerald got a tap on him? That would be very interesting.
