QUEENSBURY — A local man’s challenge of President-elect Barack Obama’s citizenship has been garnering national attention, if not credibility.
Robert Schulz of Queensbury is the founder and chairman of We The People, a group dedicated to upholding strict adherence to the state and U.S. constitutions.
He says there’s compelling evidence that Obama was born in Kenya, not on U.S. soil, which he contends would make him ineligible to become president. On Thursday, Schulz mailed letters to all members of the Electoral College, asking them to delay the Dec. 15 official balloting until the citizenship questions are cleared up.
"We really like this guy," he said of Obama, "but we like the Constitution a bit more. For someone who’s dedicated the past 30 years trying to uphold the Constitution, how could I let this go by and maintain any kind of credibility? It’s up to Mr. Obama to set the facts straight and he refuses to do so."
Facts seem to line up against Schulz’s argument. Hawaii Health Department Director Dr. Chiyome Fukino and the state’s registrar of vital statistics, Alvin Onaka, have said they checked health department records and determined there is no doubt Obama was born in Hawaii.
In addition, the nonpartisan Web site www.factcheck.org examined the original document and said it does have a raised seal and the usual evidence of a genuine document. The site also reproduced an announcement of Obama’s birth, including his parents’ address in Honolulu, that was published in the "Honolulu Advertiser" on Aug. 13, 1961.
None of that fazes Schulz, who placed two full-page ads in The Chicago Tribune and on Monday held a news conference at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C.

Americans were not going into Pakistan in 1981. There was plane hijacking and the American and Canadians passengers were accused of being CIA agents. Too young to remember how dangerous travel was for Americans?
You can repeat until the proverbial cows come home that it was dangerous, and hence uncommon, for Americans to travel to Pakistan. Okay. It was really really really dangerous. Which part of that stripped a traveler of his U.S. citizenship?
Travel was banned for Americans after the hijacking.
The Pope isn't an American. Also his visit would be classed as diplomatic.

The State Department says that US citizens are required o use a US passport when traveling to and from the US. I don't know if it's always enforced. My recollection, and it's been a few years, is that I had to show my passport to a TSA inspector to get into the departures area of the airport; I've never been abroad by any other means of transportation, so I don't know about those.
Actually, I have entered Mexico on foot (Nogales), and I'm sure I didn't show a passport to leave or enter the US because I didn't have one at the time. That was before 9/11, so it might be more difficult now.
Accepting all your claims for the sake of argument, then he could be prosecuted. No effect on his citizenship.
Again your assumption is that he had a US passport. I think the reason he sealed his records, collge records, is because he did not. This man has left no record available. No footprint visible. Why hide?
Btw, do you remember months back when passport files were hacked? Hillary’s, McCain’s and Obama’s? It was hacked by an Obama advisor. That was in the news. Why? What was he doing? You don’t see that as odd?

You can go anywhere despite travel restrictions. Don’t expect the US to bail you out.
