The Republican road to recovery: A real pro's ideas
RenewAmerica ^ | December 4, 2008 | Wes Vernon, RA analyst

The nine (at last count) candidates for the job of Republican National Chairman have been sent an eight-page questionnaire by one of the RNC's members — essentially attempting to determine what they would do to pick up the pieces following the 2008 disaster. This letter is bound to get much attention because it comes from a party activist whose prominence in the GOP and in the conservative movement has earned him the respect of those skilled in the craft of serious political science.

From the list: “Sen. John Sununu of New Hampshire”

Requirements to head the GOP: (1) spine, (2) guts, (3) gonads to stand up to Liberals and the media (4), ability to tell the American people in a no-nonsense way what the hell is going on, (5) ability to name names and detail the time line of political corruption that is rampant in DC, (6) ability to protect our military from the savaging that Liberals will embark upon January 20th, (7) dedication to demanding that our nation’s security not be destroyed by Liberals/Socialists in power. Freepers, feel free to add to the list and “demand” that the GOP listen to the Conservative base before we have no country and no future left!

I can’t remember who it was who had mentioned that the GOP should set up a shadow government? But I think he had it right.

We need a solid conservative at the helm who will be in the face of every liberal idea/policy this next administration is going to bring forward; IMHO.

This is a good newsletter. I subscribed to it. That was a good set of questions to ask the candidates for RNC Chair. :)

Fervent desire to return our country to the values and ideals set forth by our Founding Fathers especially those of the Constitution.

This is an excellent article, and the points he makes are all sound, notably the stupid way that the RNC wrote off social conservatives, the stupidity in not appealing to blacks and minorities on the basis of issues like marriage and family, and the probable stupidity of the RNC leadership in allowing the party pros to neglect the basics of party building because they don’t get as big fees for doing that.

And the importance of keeping party discipline so RINOs won’t feel able to cross party lines any time they feel like it. For instance, will someone discipline that idiot McCain next time he tries it? That means PUNISH HIM by withdrawing all his pork until he starts behaving himself.

It is certainly disturbing, however, that this consultant just wrote another article saying never mind Obama’s birth certificate, it’s not an issue. That is precisely the kind of weak spined surrenderism that he seems to be arguing against here. What on earth is wrong with demanding that Obama show his real birth certificate before assuming the presidency?

The RNC needs two things: a good, solid, conservative face and news presence to address the voters over an obstructive MSM; and a good solid knowledge of practical politics. That may mean that we need two guys, one to face the public, and the other to run the nuts & bolts. Haley Barbour would be an obvious choice, but I doubt he’d be willing.

There is no one alive who matches all these requirements.

No one, at least, who the Right can agree upon.

The Right wasn’t even united under Reagan. What hope do you think there is now?

Good for Morton Blackwell. Of the candidates so far, I think the most tenacious of the lot is Ken Blackwell of Ohio. No pushover, he.

Reagan’s body would be better than any of the wimps we have today. As for hope, with the Fuhrer in power aided by Pelosi and Reid, no hope!

Sounds like a great idea. I think we should fight EVERY left-wing program they try to create and fight funding for every one already in place.

We need to cut spending.

Thanks for the link.

The GOP must finally accept that the political landscape has changed dramatically in the past 50 years, and then rise to the challenge presented by its Alinsky-trained, street fighting political opponents.
Among other things, the GOP game plan must be tailored to defeat the Dems attempt to increase the number of tax money recipients by any means.
Sadly, it must squarely face the fact the MSM and the nation’s education system is compromised.

“The Democrats treated the Judge Bork confirmation hearing as a political process and the Republicans treated it as a confirmation hearing, which is why they lost.”

For issues such as ‘natural born’, the RNC needs allies such as 527s to take the MSM heat but expose to the public the issues and return the heat.

In much the same way as the Obama organization used the ACORN organization, the RNC must use 527s to its advantage. The RNC need not take responsibility for the exposees of such 527s, but it must neither condemn them.

GW condemned the Swift Boat 527 of 2004. That was unbelievable to me that he did so when it was not necessary to do so. The Swift Boat 527 was directly responsible for bringing out the truth of Kerry’s real record of Vietnam service and his anti-war lies. GW should have remained silent and said he was not connected to this 527 which would have been true. Instead he went out of his way to condemn them; unbelievable shock to this day that he did this.

527s were so successful in 2004 that the democrats talked of making them illegal.

I believe McCain prevented 527s from vetting Obama because he thought it was an abuse of his campaign finance law. 527s were nowhere to be found in 2008.

But the RNC can stay above the fray and let 527s bring dirty laundry to the public.

I hope RNC members pay a lot of attention to Morton Blackwell. He is a major proponent of the party returning to its Reagan roots and is a HUGE enthusiast of Sarah Palin and her future role in the party.
