Conservatives thoughts on just being laid off. (I was)
I was laid off this week.Two weeks before Christmas. Am I scared, No, I have no debt and a savings account.
I have been in my trade for 15 years and have excellent skills.
I took and passed my states contractors license a few months ago and passed. Yea me!
I have about 3 years of living expenses in the bank and no debt.
I'm taking a well deserved few months off before the next year and will start my own business come spring. I'll be hunting and fishing in my spare time. Who needs the damn government! Not this family.
Stop whining.
Did you not see the HUNT and FISH part... I'm a guy!!!!

I work a part time job 5 days a week and I was just cut back to 3 days a week. (4 hours/day)
It was so much fun. Every day I pinched myself. I couldn’t believe I was actually living in Nice. It was like a dream come true.
I have stable work.....unless I am injured....
we have a HELOC...we have no other payments except we do run a credit card but pay it off each month....not a lot in ready savings but a cd and some other stock if I got really desperate....the 401 has taken a hit but I won't touch that yet....
you know what I worry about?...if all hell breaks loose like Glenn Beck insinuates is coming, what about property taxes?....ours are huge...it would almost be like working only to pay the taxes....
and if the economy goes depression/deflation....nobody will buy our house....
its the taxes that scare me....

Exactly how I grew up = always a years supply of food, in the ground or cellar; milk, butter, beef, pork in the barn; eggs, chicken in the coop; meat, fish in the forest.
No credit cards (not heard of)
We didn't even know we were poor. ;o)
It was a good life. Reminded of it here today - ice storm knocked out power. Fired up the wood stove, heated water, made stew, lit the lamps -

Excellent.
I see too many start a business by going out and buying new laptops, bookkeeping services etc. Signing up for various financial obligations before they ever make a dime. Self finance and build it up one day at a time.

You’ve been paying unemployment insurance for 15 years. Why not collect?
If your house becomes worth significantly less theoretically your property taxes will go down with it.

It is fun short term. Not so fun long term...
If I ever have an airplane to break...I'll be certain to call you first for repairs.
