Give everyone CO2 permits, say scientists

Everyone on the planet could get identical greenhouse-gas emission rights as part of a drive to halve emissions by 2050, according to a study by Chinese scientists.

The work was presented on the sidelines of a UN conference on fighting global warming that is currently taking place in Poznan, Poland. It would force nations such as the US, which have used the most fossil fuels since the Industrial Revolution to buy emission rights from poor nations.

"Developed countries [should] take the lead in reducing emissions," said Su Wei, head of climate change at China's National Development and Reform Commission.

The Carbon Budget Proposal suggests that emission allowances could be set at 2.33 tonnes of carbon dioxide per year for each person on the planet in the period 1900 to 2050 as part of a goal of halving world emissions by 2050.

No consensus Most rich nations have already far exceeded their budgets and would have to buy emissions rights to keep on emitting until 2050. US emissions now exceed 20 tonnes per head of population.

China, as the oldest and most developed civilization ever, just ask, should take the lead in reducing emissions, show us primitive countries how it is done.

Taking environmental advice from communist countries is a bad idea. Therefore, I’m sure Obama will do so.

Let’s try a pilot program for 20 years or so first to see how it goes. We could start with the group of scientists who have been backing the Globull Warming thing.

Yeah, I’ve been waiting for this one. Not to mention the methane you produce, and fat-arsed Americans produce more than anyone else. $175/yr/American, I say! Tax the FAT!

As we've said all along, a global redistribution of wealth that harms the US.

What's not to like for US liberals and the rest of the world?

since the Industrial Revolution to buy emission rights from poor nations

What in the heck good will that do? Money is only good if you exchange it for goods or services. If you don't use it for that, it's only other use is as really bad toilet paper. If they use the money to purchase goods, not only will those goods have to be produced (using more energy) they will have to be shipped to the poor nations (using even more energy). So doing what these people suggest would only increase CO2 production not decrease it. Which proves two things.
The MSM that keep promoting this are idiots and the people suggesting it in the first place aren't doing it to decrease global warming.

Everyone who believes in AGW (~50% of all folks) should commit suicide for the sake of the planet. Problem solved (Human CO2 emissions cut in half and no one cares anymore).

"buying carbon credits from 'poor' nations..." Wealth redistribution by any other name... Well, when you rob Peter to pay Paul, you can always count on Paul's support.

And then all those countries can pay us a liberty tax for all the liberty we gained and preserved for them - besides we will soon be a little short on liberty!
